it's because marvel writers have the genius to actually fallow trends in other media by creating character (of in this case resurrecting one) to be their take on that trend. for example;
-the wwII nazi-german super soldier program gave us captain america
-60's swing culture and homophobia gave us the x-men, mutants, and spider-man. and in extension martin luthor king/malcolm x gave us professor xavier/magneto.
-1960's fascination with aliens and space travel = fantastic four, silver surfer etc
-korean war/vietnam = iron man and the punisher
-legion of superheroes was popular but kiddy so marvel made the squadron supreme.
-terminator movies = deathlok, cable, bishop, and the whole 90's image thing, including the company of the same name's obsession with covert gun violence.
-tarzan = ka-zar
-god of war = planet hulk, world war hulk, and current drax
-superman = sentry
basically it's a marketing strategy just as much as it's a inspirational thing. if people love a new idea or an event is becoming super popular, marvel will make an analog of it.
