WHO WINS? whoever the f the writer wants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok id like to post a simple thread here concerning the often ludicrous vs debates that go on here{not being a part of them in a while}.

people here think of characters in the comic book verse as REAL BEINGS with DEFINED characteristics who can actually be thought to consistantly fight with other characters. but they often forget, that a character is WHATEVER the writer wants them to be. in other words writers can and often are as biased towards charcters in stories {or as much of fanboys as most debaters are} as the DEBATERS are.

its useless to speculate whether wolwerine's claws can pierce world war hulk or whether HOM wanda was lower than eternity etc. it ALL depends on the writer and that is why numerous retcons and continuity issues arise, because te writers are constantly changing the limits and abilities of character.

in other words, much of this debating is meaningless big grin Happy Dance

i WISH. what i wudnt give for some alcohol right now. but no totally sober, srry.

and my point is to point OUT the silliness of many of the poeple here who seem to think its a life or death decision to get the last silly word in one of these debates. also, i dont hear nearly enough times, people admitting "it depends on the writer".

ud agree that its a valid point wudnt u?

Thats rarely true. Most of the writers have their hands tied whenever they have 2 popular chars fighting. There are exceptions ofcourse but tell me- When was the last time u saw 2 popular characters fight each other with one of them CLEARLY winning? And im talking a definite win where fan of the other char wont be able to say "yeah but he lost because...(incert some curcamstances that occured during the fight i.e. injured, tired, holding back had help etc etc") so writers opinions often mean jack. They cant let one of the chars definitely WIN.

I think the idea is to parse all the data and come up with a figure that kind of represents the character. From there you compare the two sets and try to determine which character would be victorious. Each new showing is entered into the calculations and may or may not affect the final figure.

But I suppose we could do it the other way and give up all free thinking and just accept the character as whatever he or she does that month and nothing more.

the problem is that we all know it's dependant on the writer.

this forum, most of the time, takes things from a purely in-universe perspective, though.

exactly, and the inuniverse is always the "present" so things change with every retcon.

but retcons don't really happen that often. and besides, we take a very generalised version of each character for the debates that go on in the forum.

Correct. It does, when writer is writing. After the deal, it doesn't depends on him any more, until he is writing about that again.

Comics are stories, of course the storyteller decides what happens in them. How could it be any different? I just made a story where a hand ninja totally uppercutted Galactus.

Who is this directed to, leon? The people you're addressing will remain idiotic about debate...this rather hastily constructed tirade won't change that. And the rest of us have understood it for a long time. It's an intrinsic and obvious fact of the industry we follow.

i agree that it is sort of silly, and there do seem to be a few who take this forum somewhat personal, but i'll be a monkeys' uncle if it isn't entertainin'. Just go for a run, find a date or go shooting (at a range, of course) and let some steam off, bud. I have admit, though, its pretty funny to see someone kind of snap from the comic book vs forums. Youll be fine.
