I could have sworn post upgrade he gave Wolverine somewhat of a ass whooping and he briefly stalemated Omega red before being toasted

Weapon x "upgrade" turned him into gollum on a leech. He went back to his wildheart persona and looks when Romulus apparently recalled him into service long after the weapon X was shut down. They really wasted the character completely with all this shit.

He was at his most dangerous when he went after sabertooth under Romulus's orders (and probaly to take personal revenge as well) and destroyed him. But he had prep and IIRC his talons were dipped in neurotoxins or something.

Weapon X "upgrade" pretty much was a depowering to what he was like in Alpha Flight.

Yep, but to note Wolverine even commented Wild Child was faster then him. The neurotoxins only kicked in after WC beat him though.
