Can't MM beat Adam and half a dozen bricks (Captain Marvel, Power Girl, Supergirl maybe..) just by switching off their minds? Even Supes has been knocked out by strong telepaths...

This is MM's brother controlling his body, using his telepathy to mindscrew the entire JLA.
MM could easily do the same thing himself. In fact, in World War 3, he claimed he was allowing Adam conscious thought, as opposed to simply switching his mind off. The only reason Adam broke his control, is because of this oversight...
And then the story contradicts itself, by having MM's pain be too much for Black Adam.
It should be noted World War III was under two different writers, and John Ostrander, who wrote the last half of the series where MM mindscrews Adam, also wrote MM's mini series.
MM would do better against captian marvel. Billy is highly suseptable to mind control. Seems like everyone and their grandmother has had control over billys brain at one time or another.
