i'm sure the mind gem would supply some protection, but i highly doubt it would be enough. even assuming he COULD resist the tp for a whilel, black's tk would be enough to crush mandarin. putting villains who can't beat ironman up against a guy who worked superman over for a while doesn't make for the most even of matches.... and i LIKE mandarin.
