Well the Superman thing confuses me because it looks like Superman was knocked back just before he connected with the punch. It shows him about to connect and then the next panel he has been knocked back.

Yah. I got it as him getting bounced back , and the shockwaves from the hit destroying things around them - but the Racer just standing there, unmoved. You can even see the Racer being cut off midsentence.
I see, I thought he'd used some kind of mental power to stop him.

Given what we knew about the power Darkseid and Anti-Monitor wielded going into this battle, that scene made it clear that Black Racer/Death is pretty much the most powerful force in the DCU(aside from the ALE, of course.) IMO.
