Hammonds intention at the time... he wanted to make everyone happy his intention and his party type illusion was non harmful, it was non threatening, it was non invasive he was making a perception illusion changing the appearance of the background and how they saw each other. Orion is on panel stating these illusions are boring, or something like that. Proving he was fully aware of what Hammond was doing psychically, actually, they all knew what Hammond was doing... it was all friendly.

If the intention is pure (and theres no point trying to decieve mother box) Mother won't go into paranoid defense mode.

Mother Boxes are alive and they do have agency. They protect the universes secrets thats one of their core programs which cannot be overriden or broken, However they can opt to let people interface with them and they can absolutely opt to shut out people.

If someone is really trying to do something right Mother Boxes can help them without being asked to.

They can also opt not to help the exact same person do something that's not right.

They're like Samurai Jacks sword which will not take the life of an innocent no matter how much whoever holds it wants it to do so and they're like The Zanpakutō of the Soul Reapers in Bleach... Sentient Swords which don't appear Sentient but are actual full sentient beings with their own personalities which form their own idiosyncratic bond with the soul who holds them and can be called upon by their owner for instruction and can give their own power to their owner 'amp' the user patch the user, save the user etc.
