From the context above it's clear that he's far beyond the fireball radius of the planet when it explodes.

Superman (2011) #37

Here he clearly is exposed to part of the energy in the third scan when the wave catches up to him. But he's far beyond the atmosphere at this point limiting the exposure to a small fraction of what he would've been exposed to if he remained on the surface.
