Spiritual intimacy is deeper than physical, sexual intimacy between a husband and wife, man or woman. The love between a man and a woman is a type, picture, microcosm if you will of the love between a man and woman and God. We should be in love with God because He is in love with us. We put God first and love Him because it is the purpose for which we were created. Our love for God should transcend all other relationships. The intimacy and longing that we have for our significant other is a picture of the intimacy and longing that we should have for God. God has given us the grace and ability by His Spirit to be able to love Him with all of our heart, mind, and strength without neglecting our spouse, significant other, children, family, relatives, friends, and neighbors. God has made it possible for us to love Him and there still be harmony with our other, human relationships. Again, God must be first because that is why we were created. We were created to love God, to be in love with Him. The love between a man and woman is simply a type or picture of the love that should exist between a person and God. We should never put other people or other things ahead of God, no matter how much we enjoy those things. We all have passions, desires, and things that we enjoy doing, but those things should not take the place that was intended for God. God should be our utmost passion and desire. We should long for him as a man or woman longs for the love of his or her life. The holy Bible is a love letter from God to the love of His life: you and me. God hates divorce because it is a picture of separation from Him. Adam and Eve were married to God. That marriage was dissolved (divorce) through sin. We are married to God but not in a sexual sense. Sexual intimacy is meant to illustrate the oneness, and close unity that exists between a man and woman and his or her God. God is not your husband or wife and neither are you His husband or wife. Those are earthly terms that mirror the spiritual relationship or marriage that exists between a man or woman and his or her God. But God is or should be the love of our lives. We are the love of God’s life if you will. That is why the church is called the bride, the Lamb’s wife. That is simply an earthly term that the Lord uses to describe the spiritual relationship or marriage that exists between a man or woman and God. God has given us earthly marriage to help us to understand the relationship or marriage that we have with Him in the spirit. That is why God seeks such to worship Him in “spirit” and truth. Worship is not just an act that we do or perform. Worship is an expression of our intimate love for the ultimate love of our life. A love that transcends all other earthly relationships. This love is able to transcend all other earthly relationships and still be in harmony with them. When Adam and Eve became separated from God it was as if God had become divorced from the love of His life. God: Father, Son, Holy Spirit has gone to great lengths to get back the love of His life. The gospel is a message of love, reunion, and restoration. It is the greatest romance in the history of the universe, the greatest love story. God wanted, longed, craved, and desired to be reunited with the love of His life. Spiritual intimacy is the deepest, closest intimacy. The deepest that we love one another i.e. a love between a man and a woman is with the soul and physical body. The love that is shared between God and a man and a woman is with the human spirit. There is no other love more intimate in the universe.

Only problem here is that Satan loved God as well yet just because he would not kneel to us he was suddenly the epitome of evil in the universe and cast out. Seems to me that Gods love, even for his favoured angel is fleeting as soon as his favoured do something slightly against his will.
Reminds me of a child, you give it sweets and its your best friend but you take its favourite toy away and it cries and disregards your feelings.
The Great Romance?? Oh it must be whispering sweet nothings in your ear, while he tells his followers to sabatoge you behind your back...all with a smile.
