Mystic and profound, the low, hushing sound of the river was nearby. Already the faint aroma of the river oozed into his nostrils like invisible smoke.
"How long has it been...?" he said to himself.
Holding his half finished cigar in his fingers, he took a deep breath breathing in the cool winter air of the forest. The snow was still soft, as he pushed his stocky figure through it without effort. He had a rowdy air about him, unshaven and wild. There hung on him, though, an air of nobelity and honor. Giving him the grizzeled look of a war veteran. He was. He had fought and seen countless battles, fought side by side with the best of the world. And the worst. How would he ever forget that?
"Thinking of that old crap again..." he thought to himself with a smirk.
He tugged at the collar of his thick jacket. Despite his leather jacket, and two shirts he was till feeling cold.
"Should've worn three shirts!" he thought.
Suddenly he stopped. That stench...
Instinctively three long blades tore through his knuckles. He stood still as rock, examining with keen eyes what was around him. He sensed danger. His instincts never lied...the feral animalistic instincts of his that had saved his life through over a century of fatal encounters. But why did this one make his hair stand on end...? And where was it coming from? His eyes glanced sideways.
"Left...? Right...?"
In a flash, the ground where he was standing caved in under immense pressure. Wolverine flipped back, his claws gleaming in the weak sunrays. Eyes blazing.
"We meet again, Wolverine..."
Standing in the crater was a figure engulfed in crimson flames. His aura was dense and saturated, gleaming eerily over his darkened skin. Through the smoke and the dust, a pair of red eyes stared at the lone warrior a few feet ahead like a cornered beast--ready to pounce.
"AKUMAAAAAAAAAA!!!"
His battle cry echoed in the once still forest, carried higher and higher in the sky. More battle cries resounded in the forest. The ground shook voilently with some as purple balls of fire shot off at times, while giant trees slipped and feel to the ground as if cut by a giant axe. Within seconds a great part of the forest was nothing but a wreck of burnt and sliced wood.
Once again standing a few feet away were Wolverine and Akuma. Shallow scratches were visible on Akuma's arm and chest, his gi torn at multiple spots. Wolverine remained crouching on the ground, blood oozing out of his busted mouth. Many hemmatommas were visible on his muscular arms. His arm, bent at an unnatural angle, slowly adjusted back to its natural position with a sickening sound of crunching bone and flesh. He finally grinned, hils bloodied lip fully healed and his skin cleared at his arms as if the hemmatomas never existed.
Both grinned at each other. The fight had only begun!
