In Ninja Gaiden II, Ryu Hayabusa defeated the Dark Emperor.

Now, the man whose name translates as 'one who walks the sky in flames' is back for revenge.

First, he kills Ryu's former romantic interest, Irene Lew. Then he attacks the Mugen Tenshin Village. Hayate, Kasumi and Ayane, along with a number of villagers and ninja narrowly escape with their lives, but Ayame and Shiden aren't as lucky.

Ryu himself encounters the Dark Emperor, who challenges him to combat...atop where they first met.

The Tower of Lahja.

Built by the insance architects of Chaos, with giant chasms and stairs leading to nowhere, it is still foreboding as it was the last time Ryu stepped inside...but it is nowhere near as dangerous.

At the tower's apex, where the remains of Funky Dynamite are rusting, a sword appears.

The Dark Sword of Chaos, repaired and as dangerous as ever, which is followed by its owner, Ashtar himself.

Ashtar remembered the last time he fought Ryu and is now wiser...and he has a trump card.
