If we're taking about Arthas as the Lich King, Diablo wins even more.
During all of Wrath of the Lich King, Arthas proved to be a complete and utter MORON. Wasting is best army (the knight of Acherus) at Light's Hope, basically letting the Ashbringer be purified by Tirion, and letting the Horde and the Alliance stomp over the Scourge during all wrath. And his final plan (who failed) was "I let them destroy my army, just to have 10/25 more minions"...
While Diablo seems to be quite intelligent: he orchestraded his "loss" in Tristram (diablo 1) to possess a much better body (the one of the fighter that "defeated" him), and in Diablo 3 he managed to became "the" Prime Evil.
However, something like Kil'jaeden vs Diablo would be pretty close, imho.
