Darth Maul vs. Kyp Durron

This should be an interesting fight. Both were only apprentices but had amazing talents and potentials. Who would win?

Maul had the most powerful Sith training him, and he was one of the most dedicated Sith Warriors of all time.

How many Jedi did Sidious kill in hand to hand combat again? And don't tell me Maul's a badass with Force powers, because I didn't see much of it. And as for dedication, that's debateable, depending on your source.

Sidious? Well on screen he annihilates 3 Jedi masters in an instant, and that's most impressive.
go to www.starwars.com and read the EU info on Maul. Sidious had the most ruthless bounty hunters come after him and try to kill him, but we all know that would not be.

How can you say Maul didn't show you how cool he was? He took on two Jedi at once(I admit one was a padawan, but the other was a master) and he tore it up.

Maul was indeed very badass. Durron was whiny (at least as far as my knowledge goes) and Maul would beat him just to shut him up.

Based on what? The double saber would slice him in seconds man.

Based on the fact that Kyp is the second most powerful Jedi of his time. Only second to Luke. He may have even more potential than him, but he is too headstrong (similar to Maul himself and Anakin). Don't get me wrong, Maul is a worthy opponent, but Kyp would end up wasting him.

I'm sorry, but no one, save for Anakin Skywalker, had more potential/power than Luke in his prime. Kyp is an interesting idea, sure. But the fact is, the darkside was stronger in Maul's day, he trained more/harder, and was a much more effecient warrior.

More efficient warrior? Killed by a Padawan? I would like to see Darth Maul fight against the Yuuzhan Vong.

Read this too:
Back at the Rebel base on Coruscant, Luke Skywalker tested Kyp's Jedi power potential. What he discovered was the strongest Force presence he had known since his Masters, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda. Luke invited Kyp to join him as a Jedi trainee on the moon of Yavin Four. Although his skills were great, Kyp felt they were not enough. In Daala's dungeon at the Maw, he had come to terms with the details of his own existance and promised himself that he would never again be weak. What he also discovered, was that in the presense of the force, anger and hate and ambition seemed to make him... stronger. Between his impatience and desire for revenge against the Empire, he was ripe pickings for a servant of the dark side: Exar Kun, the long-dead Dark Lord of the Sith, whose spirit had been trapped in the Massassi temple, now the home of Luke Skywalker's Jedi Academy. Durron began secretly training with Kun. As he trained with both Luke Skywalker and Exar Kun, Kyp became ever more annoyed at Luke's peaceful, patient ways. He confronted Luke several times, barely holding his rage in check. When Mara Jade arrived on the planet, Kyp heard for the first time how much destruction Admiral Daala was wreaking on the outside. He stole Mara's Z-95 Headhunter spaceship and headed for the moon of Endor.

On Endor, Kyp sought out the funeral pyre of Darth Vader. Luke had told the students that Vader, a Dark Lord of the Sith, had reformed from the dark side to the light side... in the end. Kyp thought this meant that Sith Lords could still use the light side of the Force, and he grasped that thought as a way to ward off the intrusive influence of Exar Kun, who pulled the student toward the dark side. Kyp was aware of the fact that Kun was trying to control him and the young Jedi, clever, would not be daunted. Kyp was determined that he would be the new Dark Lord of the Sith, filled with righteous vengeance.

That's nice and all, but the fact remains. There was more power made available to Maul due to the imbalance, therefore he would be more powerful. Not to mention, Maul had been in training since he was like 10, having the best bounty hunters in the galaxy after him.
Yes, he was killed by a padawan, but there is a huge difference between the ordinary padawan and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Besides, luck is with Obi-Wan.

Yes, but it doesn't matter that there was "more power available" to Maul. The passage that i put up there states that Kyp has the potential to be as powerful as Yoda or Obi-wan. I know, potential is not everything, but Kyp became a Jedi Master in his early twenties. Maul just became a Sith Lord (equivalent to a Jedi Knight; and yes a know much about DM, i have read his comic mini-series, and 2 of the books based on him.) Kyp has mastered both Light and Dark sides of the Force, because he has recieved training from Luke Skywalker and Exar Kun.

He didn't master both sides of the force for one thing. And secondly Kyp could never ever attain the level of power as Yoda or Obi-Wan. I don't care what passage you wish to show me, the fact is Yoda's 900 years of life, and Obi-Wan's incredible luck will always keep them above Kyp. And Luke is above them.

Yes well, I never stated that he was better than them. But i think he could take Maul in a fight. Do i think Maul is cooler? Yes, but Kyp has done much more in his lifespan than Maul ever did, has had just as much or more combat experience, more potential than DM and more power. Maul possibly outclasses him in his lightsaber skill and if this battle was with no Force powers, he would probably win. I don't think anything that you say (because i already know all of what you have told me) will make me change my mind.

I re-read one of your statements, when was Kyp a Jedi Master? I mean, Luke was barely a Jedi master when he met Kyp.

During the NJO series, he is one. And he is in his twenties at that point. Therefore, he is a very young Jedi Master.

Sorry dude, but I'm going to have to say nuh-uh!
If the Jedi council wouldn't permit Anakin to be a master, then I refuse to believe what some author says.

Well, considering that he IS a Jedi Master, its kinda hard to argue with it. I know its EU, but its still true.

but who says he's a master? Luke?
Luke still hasn't got it figured out either, and he's barely a master.
