I know this isn't a versus thread, but it has to do with something that could change a lot of versus battles.
Yoda is better than Sidious. You may think that he was beaten in the movie, but he was only hoping to distract him so Obi-wan could kill Anakin. The Jedi still served the Republic and if Sidious died then there would be a civil war. It even says tons of times that Palpatine was the only thing holding the Republic together.

It's been a while since we've talked. Did you read my response to your being offended back in that post where I asked for Fishy and the others? I sincerely apologized - you misinterpreted what I meant when I said that. Anyways, though, I think Yoda might have considered the political implications of his actions, but I also think that the odds were stacked against him, so the fight was not fair anyway.
As to your point, well, I think Yoda, if it came down to it, would prefer a civil war and a power struggle without Palpatine rather than the Empire. Truly, I think that the choice was the lesser of two evils. Or perhaps I misunderstand your thread?
All in all, it's good to be able to reply to your question, well-thought-out and articulate as it is.
No... Yoda did not want to distract Palpatine, he couldn't fight anymore...
If you look closely at the fight Palpatine shoots away his lightsaber and then after that Yoda starts blocking his lightning, Yoda falls down a great distance and when he lands on the ground his lightsaber is right next to him. Yoda couldn't fight Sidious anymore because he had lost his lightsaber. And indeed he was more powerful then Sidious was, the reason he run was because he had lost his most vital tool for fightning and he could seriously never ever hope to win without it. Not when troopers were on their way.
The reason why Yoda didn't return to finish the job later on has to do with diplomacy and problems civil war and crap like that. Yoda didn't really want that.
Palpy manages to hang on, Yoda doesn't... But that doesn't change a thing really... If Yoda would have had his lightsaber the fight would have continued and Yoda would have eventaully killed Palp when he couldn't run anymore.

Personally I think both Yoda and Mace could have finished Sidious off.
In the fight between Mace and Sidious Mace is in complete control, Yoda is more powerful then Mace, and his control of the force is greater then that of Sidious. Sidious wants to run away from Yoda...
Yoda is incredibly powerful, possibly more powerful then even Anakin could have hoped to become.
Yoda knew troopers were coming and ran away, his lightsaber had been destroyed, but he more then matched Sidious. He blocked Sidious his best and threw it right back in his face, Sidious had the advantage becuase of the location, thats the reason he even managed to stand against Yoda.

I watched the movie four times... Yoda won everytime, well he left everytime, because he got his lightsaber destroyed everytime, but he outclassed Sidious everytime

Both of those guys gave all they got and Yoda could counter everything Sidious threw at him. Sidious certainly isn't a lot more powerful than Yoda.

He isn't. Sidious gave it his all, and Yoda reflected it. If he was hit then Sidious would have been more powerful, if they would have stood there for hours they would have been equal, Yoda didn't stand there for hours though he threw it back in his face... Palpatine is weaker, besides if he was stronger why run away?
