Mercer's certainly agile enough to keep away from harm, flares will be fatal if they land.
He should also have the strength to do some damage to Sin, being able to throw large tanks and one-shot them will do that, and with people to consume he's got all the time in the world.
Sin has the advantage of better fire-power and durability. Mercer's got that mobility, strength+greater opportunity to strike.
