okay, honestly, when i first heard it, i was like "what the f*ck happenned to the american way?"
but when i watch the documentary "look up in the sky: the history of superman" and read some interviews, i finally got it.
superman is an alien. he is not of this earth, so most certainly he is not a natural born american. superman also has an honorary citizenship in almost every-- if not every-- country in the world.
singer's aim was to include every nation in the world, not just america. and it makes great sense. superman doesn't fight just for america, he fights for everybody in the world.
i was actually surprised NOT to hear it. i was synching my lips to perry white's dialogue, then all of a sudden "...and all that other stuff" comes out.
Superman is an American hero. He was created in America. He was created by American citizens. He was created solely to be a patriotic symbol for children.
His very first appearance shows him holding an AMERICAN flag with a bald eagle on his shoulder...
People need to get that Superman will be and always will be an American symbol first and foremost.
