Nintendo man leaves Nintendo because of stuff but nintendo man is..

by Matt Casamassina
January 11, 2006 - Late last year we reported that Nintendo of Europe's Jim Merrick had left the subsidiary to return to the States, where it was presumed that he would take a position with the American branch. However, more recent news confirms that Merrick will, in fact, be departing Nintendo altogether to pursue other interests. No details were specified.

"After nearly 12 years with Nintendo, the last three of which were at Nintendo of Europe, Jim Merrick has left the company to pursue other opportunities," a spokesperson for Nintendo of America confirmed. "We thank him for his many years of valuable service and wish him luck in his future endeavors."
Merrick has long been an integral member of the Nintendo team. He is perhaps best known as the one-time technical director on "Project Dolphin," the early codename for GameCube. But Merrick is also familiar to IGN readers as the important other half of Perrin Kaplan's Jedi duo. Together, the two dodged dozens upon dozens of pointed questions related to GameCube over the years.

A few years ago Merrick left Nintendo of America to take over marketing responsibilities for the company's European subsidiary. He quickly became an outspoken source of information - oftentimes divulging details about Nintendo games and hardware when others wouldn't. This truth was best evidenced after the Tokyo Game Show 2005, when Merrick candidly pulled back the curtain on a number of Revolution elements, from the console's Bluetooth-enabled relationship with the innovative controllers to a global release time frame for the machine.

IGN is sorry to see Jim leave the Big N and we wish him the best of luck wherever he lands.

he doesnt sound like he's important... he dodged questions and just kept info hidden about gamecube.. and pulled a curtain back for a revolution aspect.. that and some marketing.. which nintendo hasnt been doing the best in either... so good riddance I say

Exactly. Anyone can fill his shoes. Now if Shigeru Miyamoto left, then it would be different.
