Miffed UNRATED dvd's

Crap if you ask me. I mean, I bought the "Unrated" UMD of "Dumb and Dumber" and it shouldn't even have been unrated. It would have easily fit into the PG-13 version. Why dont they just called it the "Longer" version or the uncut version? Most of the time the footage isn't even worth it either. Most of the time the footage they added isn't even bad or "too bold for theaters".

Just a marketing ploy for studios to make more money. I mean really if you want some to see more naked chicks, look at porn.

I agree on the first statement but if a studio really has more great stuff to offer then by all means...do it. But for a two second longer shot of breast is just stupid. If its something worthwhile then go for it but other than that it's just not worth it.

Now the "40 Year Old Virgin" on the other hand. 17 minutes longer is pretty good!

They're too lazy to go to the MPAA to have basically the same movie to be rated again. Labeling it PG-13 would be illegal.

The Daredevil and Spawn director's cuts were rated R though.

And I think an "unrated" version is a joke if it doesn't reach almost a half hour longer.

Movies that are released on DVD that are "Unrated" a lot of the time don't have shit to do with nudity or anything like that. The film simply cannot be rated by the MPAA because it includes additional content that wasn't included in the original theatrical version of the film, regardless if it's 1 minute or 1 second.

Case in point, "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" was a mere 3 minutes longer, and while it hardly differed, and probably could have bared the same PG-13 rating had it been showsn theatrically, it doesn't matter, because the content was additional and never submitted for MPAA approval.

What about the movies that are re-rated R. Like Saving Silverman?

But either way, its a very crappy way to make more money.

True but if you're smart, you'll read a review of the DVD to see if any of the extra scenes are worth spending the extra money on.

Yeah, I'll do that next time. But I'm not really that mad about it this time. "Dumb and Dumber" is one of my favorite movies of all time. And I didn't own it before this.

"Dumb and Dumber" DVD release is a no brainer. In addition to being 6 minutes longer, and having extras the bare-bones original release didn't have, it's in DTS-EX and DD 6.1 ES.

Exactly. I think i'm going to re-buy it on dvd. I didn't get the documentary and alot of the deleted scenes on mine. I was just going on a road trip later that day so I thought I would pick up something for the trip and also try out my PSP at the same time.

Movies like that and Daredevil, I bet they're sure to get a higher rating and add the "All New Rated R Version" label to the movie. As CA mentioned above, movies like Emily Rose aren't submitted because they're obviously going to get the PG-13 rating again. And that ruins their whole marketing ploy as the special "Unrated Version".

For me, if two editions are released, I go ahead and get the unrated version. The changes are insignificant, the price is the same, sometimes the rated versions only come in fullscreen, and it's adding more movie for my dollar. If a longer cut is released later, there would have to be significantly more for me to get it.

Dumb and Dumber, great buy if I cared enough to get it (I've seen it a million times and seven added minutes isn't going to make me watch it more often). The original DVD was just for people to upgrade from their VHS anyway.

I'm GLAD I didn't see the gay trucker with his cheetah speedo in theaters. If you don't own the original anyway, it isn't that big of a deal. The only decent 'unrated' movie I ever saw was American Pie 2, I didn't see it in theaters cuz I had no one to go with and I was 15, so to me that was best.

I just buy Unrated versions of movies I don't already own anyway.

40 Year Old Virgin is probably the best Unrated DVD out there.

AVP is one of the worst. There is 2 additional scenes (including the one on the first DVD with the 1904 beginning) and the 2nd scene is them finding a dead face-hugger in the sacrificial chamber and them talking about how it may be some sort of scorpion. Then there is like 4 scenes where they DIGITALLY added very little blood to stab wounds. I thought it was originally filmed as an R film and then was cut to be PG-13. But if that were true, then the unrated DVD would have the girl say "You're one ugly mother f*cker" to the alien when it still says, "You're one ugly mother..." and then she is cut off.

Wow, The Exorcism of Emily Rose" UNRATED dvd is a jip. I read the review online and it only contains three minutes of courtroom scenes that weren't in the original and weren't submitted to the MPAA so are therefore "UNRATED"

Can a mere three minutes really be all that spectacular?

Anyway, at least both the PG-13 and unrated DVDs were released at the same time so you didn't get ripped off double-dipping.

I got the Old School unrated version the other day. That was a ripoff. There was about three minutes added to it. Andy Dick's dialogue was extended a little and there was an extra shot of Will Ferrell's streaking scene. In any case, I was double-dipping with a movie I had originally bought the full screen version on accident so it's not so bad.
