I'm not sure if this can be done...I don't see why but maybe this kind of thread shouldn't be opened. Well I may love anime/manga but I hardly know any. I've heard of quite a few but don't know if I'll like them. All I know is Dragonball/Z/GT, Tenchi Muyo/in Toyko, Outlaw Star & X. I like trilling, fantasy & action anime. Both Outlaw Star & X are 15's while Tenchi & DB/Z/GT are PG's/12's.
I was looking at loads of anime in a shop but just couldn't decide. In the end I bought Tenchi Muyo, Tenchi in Love. Cost me £17.99, which is why I didn't just decide to buy it at that price.
A man at the counter recommend Ghost in a Shell & Spirited Away which do look good but I'm not going to buy them unless I'm quite sure I'll enjoy them. Then I can keep buying them. Someone I know also recommended Naruto but I'm not sure.
There's top recommended anime & some which aren't that much. Can I get some ideas, what they are about & what age rating they are? Thanks, much apprieate it.

yea i thnk this thread is ok, its related to anime after all ^_^
ummm hmmm from the anime you listed it seems your into shounen, and by the shows you just listed i recommend Full Metal Panic!, Cowboy Beebop, Samurai Champloo, Trigun, Naruto (i dunno it seems to me that those that were into dbz are into naruto its action/fighting stuff), Rurouni Kenshin (comedy) and Samurai X (related to rurouni kenshin but is way more series) [sorry i dont have that many, i mainly watch shoujo] Buy them off of ebay! Even if you live in Europe it should be cheaper! the only thing is that they are imports, make sure to buy region 0 dvds so itll work if you decide to do so

Eh, like action/fantasy anime?
Well then:
#1: Naruto
If you liked Dragon Ball Z and Tenchi Muyo you'd definately appreciate Naruto. If you can get the subbed (or subtitled version) seeing as it's so much better than the dubbed version.
#2: Inuyasha
It's a fantasy/Action/Romance anime. Quite funny and entertaining, especially if you are a fan of demons. I suppose it's a comedy as well.
#3: Bleach
Awesome series, need I say more? Shinigamis.
#4: Fruits Basket
This one is more Romance/Fantasy/Comedy but if you're into the whole family feud, people turning into animals thing you'll enjoy it.
#5: Rave Master
I've never actually seen the anime, but the manga is worth reading. In some cases, the manga is.
My main advice:
Shows like Naruto (manga based on anime) are best as anime. Shows like Rave Master (anime based on manga) are best as the manga. The original is always best.
I'd say avoid Naruto, although if you liked DBZ you might like it. If you liked DBZ, you should check out Yu Yu Hakusho, which is like DBZ only better (in fact, it outsold DBZ in Japan). YYH is rated "teen."
Spirited Away is an excellent, excellent anime; if it's also a manga, I haven't read it; it's pretty much any age range, although I guess there's a little blood, and some parts might freak kids out.
If you don't mind horror with your action, you should pick up Priest and Island. I suppose they're not technically "manga" because they're not Japanese (both authors are Korean, I think), but really, so what? Age-range wise, they'd be rated R if they were movies--they're described as "older teen" (Priest) and "mature" (Island) by the companies that publish them.
If you like samurai-action stuff, you should definitely try Lone Wolf and Cub; Kojima, the author, is a huge name in Japan, and the series is considered a classic. Too bad that Dark Horse released them in tiny volumes. I actually prefer the spin-off, Samurai Executioner, but if you're looking for action, you'll find it slow, and the amount of rape and torture that's crammed into that series is downright disturbing. Dark Horse doesn't rate manga, but Samurai Executioner comes with an "adults only" sticker attached, and Lone Wolf isn't much nicer.
Other titles in the Samurai-action field would be Blade of the Immortal (excellent--not rated, but would probablty be "16+" if it were), Samurai Deeper Kyo, and Rurouni Kenshin, which is terrible over-rated but still fun (and the current story, Enishi's vengeance arc, is the best of the manga, so this is a good time to start collecting) (both 15+).
As a rule of thumb, any anime with more than fifty episodes isn't going anywhere and should be avoided; really, thirty is pushing it.

Oh I don't mind blood, I say it adds more effect to the show & realism. In X the film though, it was a bit sick when heads of sliced off & blood splirting everywhere. Ughh... I like horror too, you know fantasy/horror, is all good.
Of course, Rave Master. That doesn't stick in my head like the others. It's pretty good, not the best but average/good. I forgot about Shaman King too, that also being a good show.
What is Bleach like? I also heard that Naruto was like DBZ but better, I even saw the game & am thinking about buying it. Inuyasha & Naruto both sound good. Romance isn't really me but demons can be cool.
What is Shounen & Shoujo? I'll check them all out. Thanks all for suggestions so far.

Shounen is anime aimed at boys, shoujo is anime aimed at girls.

Shounen, Shoujo, I'll probably forget what they are & to spell them? Ugh, romantic stuff, it's all a bit soppy for me. Action is exciting & my sort of thing.
Even though information is given to me about all these animes, I'm still going to have trouble knowing if I'll like them or not. It's not fair. Bleach & Naruto do look quite interesting, I'll definetly give them a shot.

Try taking a look at the Gundam Series the plot remains largely the same but some of the variations make it worth checking them all out
I like a lot of the classic Series in Anime in particular Astroboy and my personal Favorite Cyborg 009 are very good for seeing the best of both Tezuku Osama and Shotaro Ishinomori who were real innovators in the feilds
The guy who suggested Ghost In the Shell and Spirited Away was actually right both of those are really good. G.I.T.S: SAC is good if you like high Drama with hard hitting action it can be very complex because there is a lot of politics and psychological and Humanity debates through it (which is the reason I kind of got into it)
I have not seen Spirited Away but know of the Author/Creator Hayao Miyazaki (might have butchered it sorry) His works are really good my favorite is Whisper Of the Heart most of his works are Fantasy or coming of Age Stories (kind of like Disney which is why they took interest in his works) at any rate they are worth checking out
