I dream of a time when every other article we write isnt' about a remake...
But, that aside, we talked the Peter Filardi a while back about his upcoming redo of Stephen King's IT. Originally planned for TNT it has been snatched up by The Sci-Fi Channel as a four hour mini.
I saw Filardi at last weekend's Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors where he spoke about this and other projects (COLDHEART CANYON! and a new WOLFEN remake) he was working on.
Two things. One: the new incarnation of IT is supposed to be told from the perspective of Beverly Marsh instead of Bill Denbrough. That could be an interesting take on the tale. Two: I expect that Tim Curry will not get a call. Too bad. He was a creepy Pennywise.
I dig IT. The first adaptation was decent considering some of the cast. Let's just see what happens...
Well, I say "F**K A REMAKE!!!"........and also "F**k the unoriginal b*st*rd for wanting to do one. Can't he come up with something new, original, and refreshing instead of another damn remake?"
Doesn't Hollywood have enough friggin' remakes already for cryin' out loud??? Do we REALLY have to have a remake of "IT"?? What's wrong with the original? And I don't care who's in this remake, they're not going to top Tim Curry as Pennywise!!! He was PERFECT in that role!!!
*SHEEESH* I don't know about the rest of you horror fans, but I for one am getting bored with remakes...especially the recent ones that have been hyped up, only to leave us feeling disappointed!!! (Texas Chainsaw, The Fog, House of Wax, Hills Have Eyes, etc......) This is just my opinion, but as far as a remake of "IT", no thanks, I'll stick with the Tim Curry film and the book....what more do you need???
P.S....the same thing applies to Rob Zombie for doing a remake of the greatest horror movie ever made, "HALLOWEEN"......Hey, and while your at it Mr. Zombie, go ahead and do a remake of "Nightmare on Elm Street", "Jaws", and "The Exorcist" too while your at it....why not???

Though the original wasn't anything much to start with, this Sci-Fi Channel remake will probably be worse. Other than the Bruce Campbell ones, the Sci-Fi Channel has a terrible movie track record.
The original It did scared me a bit when I was a kid, but when I watch it now I see it's flaws (especially compared to the book). It could have been so much better if it's wasn't made to be a TV movie/series and received more attention on screenwriting, effects and scares.
I think the remake will be equally flawed by equal mistakes, but without including the highlight of the original; Curry as Pennywise.
I also appreciated the other actors in the original, and I fear another 'House of wax' cast on this one, plunging this flick even deeper in crap.
The origional scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. To this day it still does. Yeah its cheesey as hell now because it WAS made in 1990 but I'm scared sh*tless of clowns. Anyways I dont think a remake to IT would be a good idea IMO. Whos gonna play as Pennywise this time? Some goober ass talentless kid who just got out of film school? I'm sure if it is remade it will be just like every other horror movie made these days....complete crap.
That's not the motivation in movieland. They far to often do not necessarily want to make a better movie, they want to use the fame of the original to lure a new audience, and gain more profit.
Adapting a bad movie will decrease the chance on that, as those have no status and will not draw the sought attention as a remake.
I think a remake of IT would be a good idea only if they remain true to the original. I was only talking to my friend about it the other day.
The original IT scared me when I was a child. Just the image of Pennywise the clown on the front cover of the film did it for me. I only saw the opening sequence when the clown goes after that child and all you see is the tricycle falling over. I had to turn it off just after that part! I plucked up the courage to watch all of it about a year or two later and still scared me as much.
I watched it not long ago expecting it to be the same, but now I'm older, 21 to be exact, it didn't scare me the same way as it did, obviously.
IT was a B-movie made for television. The special effects were not as good and the 'monster face' of the clown was more laughable than scary.
Hopefully a remake could patch up the effects and make the clown even more scary. But it would have to be casted perfectly as not just anyone could star as the clown.
Also a alternative ending rather than that silly spider would be great as well!
I think a remake or IT and another remake of The Blob would be awesome!
Ok I'm not big on all the remakes also. But It could use a facelift, it was on ABC for one thing. Sci-Fi channel? Hell no, HBO or Showtime should do it as a miniseries. There they could really scare the pants out of all of us. I mean put some decent money on one of the best horror epics. The book was long, but given the detail of the story if done right would finally give Stephen Kings fans something to be proud of. I've enjoyed all the books, and of course no film can be exactly like the book(except for the Silence of the Lambs was pretty close). But I really haven't seen a really good adaptation of Mr. Kings work in film except for The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, and Stand By Me. Carrie was a good scare in 1976. What's done is done in terms of Sci-Fi doing it. TNT did a decent job with Salem's Lot, but it dragged like crazy. It's gonna be hard to replace Tim Curry as Pennywise, I think the only actor talented enough to really scare the crap out of us as a clown from hell is Robin Williams. Ok nuff said.
well the movie wasn't original either. The book was original not the movie. I'll check it out for a little while. And what if they have tim curry in it? I often wonder if someone else played it like lets say Vincent Price or some other famous person then in the remake they're having Tim Curry everyone would be saying bleep this and bleep that no one could play the part like whoever but considering we haven't seen everyone in the world act the part it's hard to know.Maybe you need to give stuff a chance before jumping to conclusions.

I wouldn't mind a remake. I think the original was decent but after reading the book there were many other important things left out of the movie. Just like the original Salems Lot, that movie barely did the book any justice especially how they portrayed Barlow. I quite liked the remake because I felt it told the story more truthfully.
Anyway I would not mind this remake being made.

Remake would be a bad idea. Especially since the original was trash.

Lets hope the remake is more like the book. The movie missed TONS of stuff, like the hobo asking Eddie if he could give him a ****job for a quarter/dime/eventually for free.
for a change, i agree this remake should not be done. Stephen King has written plenty of books, out of movie ideas? take your pick, there's plenty to be made into movies.
this is the only movie that has generally creeped me out, so idk if the new one will be able to do it for me. i guess only time will tell
