Jonathon Joestar is the very first protagonist in the epic 92+ volume storyline of 'JoJo's Bizarre Adventure', his storyline running through the first five volumes collectively titled as 'Phantom Blood'.
A little background is necessary first before the feats begin. (Warning , Contains Spoilers)
The story begins in Victorian England with young Jonathan Joestar living at his father Jorge's wealthy estate. Another young man, Dio Brando, is adopted by them having recently lost his father, Dario Brando, whom Jorge falsely believed once saved him from an accident.
Jonathan attempts to befriend Dio, but Dio's plan from the start is to drive Jojo to madness and earn Jorge's trust so that he can become the heir to the Jostar fortune. Dio violently beats Jojo in a boxing match, turns his friends against him, steals his girlfriend Erina's first kiss, and even burns his dog Danny to death in an incinerator. Meanwhile, he gains the trust of Jojo's father through his etiquette and manners.
Seven years later Jonathan's father falls ill. Dio is very attentive and brings him his medicine every day. Jonathan is suspicious as he is certain Dio is up to no good. Jonathan discovers an old letter written by Dario Brando on his deathbed requesting Lord Joestar care for Dio. In his letter, Dario describes his symptoms, which are identical to Lord Joestar's mystery ailment. Jonathan believes that Dio must have poisoned his own father and is now trying to do the same thing to Lord Joestar. Dio discovers Jonathan with the letter and Jonathan accuses Dio of poisoning Lord Joestar. Dio decides that he must kill Jonathan before he is exposed.
In order for Dio to kill Jonathan, he puts on a cursed mask that transforms its user into a vampire permanently.
Now the Ripple (Hamon, Sendo, it has a variety of names) is kind of like a martial art. It focuses heavily on breathing ans the usage of 'Ripples' .
To put it simplistically , Ripple/Hamon/Sendo is a martial art that allows you to focus and use the natural energy created by your blood. The body carries Blood , which in turn carries oxygen. This movement creates the energy.
The Ripple users can convert this energy onto the same wavelength as the sun rays (alternatively it IS on the same waveband , but when they explain it on panel it sounds ridiculously cheesy) and as such can be used to harm the Undead.
This energy can be used for a variety of different purposes as I will later show . Back to Jojo however.
Note : I will occasionally repeat scans, usually to point out individual abilities or feats within them. Ie : There will be one copy of a scan for a fight , and another separate scan to point out an individual noteworthy ability utilised within said fight.
Now , individual stats (Strength, Speed etc) aren't too heavily played upon in the series. But I have attempted to pick out some noteworthy stuff as stated above.
Strength - JoJo drags several burly rugby players along a pitch without slowing. The announcer states 'He's like a train !'
Durability - Jojo is incredibly durable, having a damage soak I would (personally) say is comparable to Frank Castle's.
Here a 12 year old Jojo takes a blow to the back of the neck which (if my anatomy is right ?) should be capable of killing him. None-the-less he is barely hurt and then takes a kicking afterwards.
Most Manga is omitted from the CBVF due to it's unstable nature. Characters randomly jumping up and down in power without any explanation. This however is pretty damn stable.
Gender: Male Location: Hiding from The Doctor, shhhh.....
Mad props Fox. He's right btw. Even in the insanity of Parts 3 and beyond, where the Stands come in, they're still pretty stable. Btw Fox, Stands are called Yu-hamon (Ghost Ripple) by Joseph Joestar in the beginning of Part 3. Are they an evolution of the Hamon power?
__________________ Wanted: New sig. Something crazy, zany, and slightly evil. Will give sig credit to whoever's I sport.
Hirohiko Araki said that the Stands are a sort of 'evolution' of Hamon, a physical representation of it's power. This explains why only those with either Spiritual/ripple training, Ripple bloodlines or extremely strong willpower are the only ones whom have stands.
Whatever, this is MANGA and it should be posted in the MANGA section instead of the COMIC BOOK respect forum imo. But if the moderator allows it, go on
*grumbles*
Ripple energy is inherent within every human being, but can only be manipulated after having your diaphragm unlocked (usually in the form of a swift blow to the diaphragm itself) and learning a series of breathing exercises. It also focuses heavily on concentration and focus. After this training your body is usually hardier and stronger then natural , usually amping your ordinary physical stats to superhuman.
NOTE : Zeppeli (the guy In the Checkered top-hat) is Jojo's mentor, all his techniques are Ripple/Sendo/Hamon techniques and thusly can be used by Jojo. To cut it short however, just because Jojo doesn't use any of Zeppeli's techniques doesn't necessarily mean he can't
Superhuman Leaping - The Ripples training allows for a much hardier body , which is naturally beyond a humans capabilities.
Extra-sensory perception - Zeppeli transferred a small amount of ripple energy into a glass of Wine which reacts to the presence of a Zombie/Vampire, even though said vampire was hiding behind a wall !
Blood Control & Animal Manipulation- Using his ripple energy Jojo controls his bloods movements easily, allowing his to flush poison out of his system. He also causes several Snakes to turn on their master with a quick jolt of ripple energy
Magnetism - Utilising the Ripple energy, both Zeppeli and Jojo amplify the bodies natural magnetism and can utilise it to magnetise other objects, in this case they binds hundreds of dead leaves together to form a (working) hang-glider.
