Batman and Rorschach have both encountered the S.W.A.T. teams in their respective universes. Which feat would you say was the more impressive of the two?
Without taking a close look one would easily come to the conclusion that Batman had the greater showing(Prewitt Building, The Dark Knight). He handed the S.W.A.T. guys their collective asses, also taking down the disquised Joker thugs, and keeping the hostages alive from both S.W.A.T. and the thugs. Right? Batman wins in a landside. I mean afterall, Rorschach was ultimately apprehended.
Well.........
To be fair, Rorschach was caught by suprise. He did have a minute or so of preperation but still...... S.W.A.T. had the advantage. Batman knew S.W.A.T. would get involved. Let's not forget the most obvious fact here is that Batman had help from Fox along with his own sonar vision. He was essentially was in possession of a device that allowed him to be a poor mans Daredevil in that scene.
Some more points, Batman carries weapons and gadgets including mini-mines and a sticky glue gun. Rorschach has his grapple gun along with any weapon he picks up with his resourceful talent. He has to improvise whereas Batman has an arsenal.
Then there is this. The S.W.A.T. team in Watchmen seemed to be using deadly force against Rorschach. I didn't get this vibe in The Dark Knight with its S.W.A.T. team. After all, they knew that Batman is an aide to the city, the police, and is a superhero. Let's not forget Commisioner Gordon was in command and he has a relationship with Batman. Multiple S.W.A.T. officers eventually had their weapons pointed at Batman but were only threatening him. "Drop the officer, we will shoot." That shit didn't fly in Watchmen. The officers employed lethal force against Rorschach.
In thew various scenes you will also see that Batman is easily taking the police out like cannon fodder. Rorschach is running for his life and when he gets to ground level the police were running at him at the same time. They weren't falling victim to the unofficial "Kung Fu law" which states enemies can only attack the protagonist once at a time. They all rushed him at the same time and he managed to incapacitate seven police officers armed with batons.
No outside help, no sonar, no "arsenal", they attacked him, and were using lethal force(atleast they were inside), and all rushed him. Batman literally owned the S.W.A.T. guys, sure, but it was bit less realistic too and had most of the deck stacked in his favor.
Which would you say was the better feat?
Discuss.
BTW, sorry for the terrible quality of TDK video. I'm just clarifying which scene it is, pop in your own disc at home if you have to.
I'm going with rorshach for the reasons you
mentioned mainly b/c he was pretty much unarmed
and taken by complete surprise and they were actually trying
to kill him but he did eventually get caught but overal it
was a better display IMHO
