Ideas for where to take the Star Wars movie franchise next
I personally would like one movie set right after revenge of the sith. Since lucas doesn't want to devote the time to another trilogy why not just do one film where we see Palpatine and Darth Vader( in the suit because screw Anakin he kinda killed the character for me anyways) hunting down jedi and setting up the trilogy even more so.
I'd rather have another trilogy set in olden times but this would sure do in the meantime.
Re: Ideas for where to take the Star Wars movie franchise next
Interesting idea but I'm not completely sure it would work because it may just lead to more inaccuracies or established idea-tweaking between that and the OT.
But plus points would be that we could see more of Vader (especially more of him doing more fighting/killing), more of Tarkin and his dynamic with Vader and the Emperor, hunting down more of the Jedi which you said yourself (Yoda and Ben on the run?) and the construction of the Death Star and with that some insight into the Bothans that died to get the information. That last part could be seen as dramatic and a way to link with the OT.
But overall I think it would be best to leave it be, the stories been told, not much point going over it again.
I think with care if could be told and I know many star wars fans wanted to see suit Vader going off with today's special effects. It's just an idea though since I've been told lucas doesn't want to dedicate all the time to another trilogy this movie would be perfect.
But if he or someone else down the line does another trilogy I'd ike to see it either far back or the past or past the events of these first two trilogies with different characters.
I think a forward progression in the franchise is the only way to go. The actors are still alive and kicking for the most part, so it makes sense to go there. I am personally sick of the backtracking with film franchises. I want to see how our heroes have evolved in the time that has passed. I want to know what became of Luke, Leia, Han and all those other characters. No I don't read the comics, books or whatever because there are too many to sift through. Besides, comics books and such lose their place when films bring in a new canon reality. This often irks the fans of these comics. So that's that, I want to see beyond the original trilogy. If they are having a problem with what sort of conflict to pursue with the franchise, the sith being extinct or on the endangered list and all. They should introduce a new antogonist not necessarily from the same galaxy. Besides, the last time I checked the universe was full of galaxies and potential bad guys. Lucas should not direct this time out. He can produce and co-write the stories. He should also fix some errors in the characters he done injustice to, Boba. :P
Well I've lost faith in George Lucas's ability to concoct an original story for a new trilogy.
The NJO would be the best possibility since the public can see what happened to Luke, Han, Leia, Chewbacca, and the droids. Fans of Star Wars would know what happens, of course, but the general audience would not. They could use one of the more compelling EU storylines (one that brings back Boba Fett of course) as a base and devise a trilogy.
Honestly, however, I think Bioware should create a Star Wars movie with animation. Looking at the Old Republic trailers, and the angles which they depict battle sequences, Bioware would be a great fit. I would pay to see them make a KOTOR movie.

I would love to see forward progression but I am scared what it would do to the franchise. I almost just want it to end and forget episodes 1-3 movies ever happened.
You know, I've never understood how anybody can convince themselves of things like that. The original trilogy is nostalgic, the prequels are their own entity, having them exist does not kill the story for me. So, I welcome a new trilogy beyond star wars, I am capable of using my head to accept them or not if they add or negate much of what the story is thus far. The originals will still be there to be told. Sure, Lucas is slowly chipping away at the originals into some weird mutation but people still remember the original 3. So bring on the next 3 I say. Rain or shine, its another 3 chapters to be told.
