In this scenario Shalla Bal is is shot by some bizarre alien weapon during an attempt on Silver Surfer's life by a cosmic space assassin.

Even with Surfer's cosmic power, he is unable to heal Shalla due to the strange extradimensional weapon that was used. As her life hangs in the balance, Mephisto appears. He claims that his power can save Shalla Bal, but Surfer must give up something of his own to seal the bargain: Zenn La!.

Mephisto will invoke the power of demonic retcon and make it so that Norrin will never have chosen to sacrifice himself to Galactus and have no memory of his life soaring the spaceways. Instead, Mephisto retcon transports Norrin and Shalla to live on earth shortly before Galactus's arrival. Surfer justifies this to himself: "If there is none other amongst the teeming billions of Zenn La willing to sacrifice their life to Galactus as I did, then they deserve their fate! I will live a normal life with Shalla Bal on earth, as I cannot live without her." (OK so it's somewhat out of character...)

The deal sealed, Mephisto waves his magic wand and greedily anticipates any evil souls on Zenn La soon to come his way...

So...

1) Can Mephisto pull this off, based on what he did in BND?

2) What happens to Galactus? Is his entire history since Zenn La changed, robbing him of his best herald?

3) What if Galactus hears on the cosmic grapevine that this satanic deal is about to go down? If he is not allowed to confront Surfer or Mephisto directly, is there anything he can do to to stop the retcon and the loss of his continuity?

3. Yes, Galactus goes to Eternity and makes a case about Mephisto's actions. Eternity, being a dick, reverses everything and bans Mephisto from traveling to the pass. This pisses but amuses Eternity - who is an even bigger douchebag than Mephisto.
