It's really just because Nihilus's drain is an unknown quality. Remember that other Jedi/Sith have demonstrated similar powers, with Luke implicitly using sever Force on Palpatine in DE, but it's a no-limits fallacy to assume that any of these abilities will work on anyone.
Besides, Skywalker can loop himself out of the Force.
