Gaea. Odin's "average" isn't on her level.

What did Gaea herself actually do, though?

As far as I can recall, her best feat was when an aspect of herself(the water elemental Naiad) fared well against Spectre on the physical plane:
[img=http://s3d3.turboimagehost.com/t/16904328_1.jpg]
[img=http://s3d3.turboimagehost.com/t/16904329_2.jpg]
[img=http://s3d3.turboimagehost.com/t/16904330_3.jpg]
[img=http://s3d3.turboimagehost.com/t/16904331_4.jpg]
[img=http://s3d3.turboimagehost.com/t/16904332_5.jpg]
[img=http://s3d3.turboimagehost.com/t/16904333_6.jpg]
[img=http://s3d3.turboimagehost.com/t/16904334_7.jpg]
[img=http://s3d3.turboimagehost.com/t/16904383_13.jpg]

However, elemental Firestorm owned Naiad with ease back when he was a complete n00b with his powers:
[img=http://s3d3.turboimagehost.com/t/16904335_8.jpg]
[img=http://s3d3.turboimagehost.com/t/16904336_9.jpg]
[img=http://s3d3.turboimagehost.com/t/16904337_10.jpg]
[img=http://s3d3.turboimagehost.com/t/16904338_11.jpg]
...So it's hard for me to think that Naiad holding her own against Spectre was anything but horrid PIS. /shrug

Aside from that, if the earth dies, Gaea dies:
[img=http://s3d3.turboimagehost.com/t/16904375_12.jpg]
ie. she is a planetary power.

Wasn't the woman that was choosen to be Naiad herself even more of a noob at that time? She was some environmental nut that died while protesting an oil rig or something.

@Galan:

Well, her encounter with the spectre would be number 1, and you can't really blame Ostrander for writing the spectre bad, he knows how to write him. Aside from that as shown in golgo's scan from wonder woman v2 #150, Gaea was the one who absorbed Cronus into her being, meaning she's more powerful than him.

And Cronus became the lord of "all creation" and has nigh omnipotent power (DC encyclopedia):

That's what he did to the trimurti in wonder woman v2 #149:

http://i.imgur.com/QHXOWGH.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/FLI8It4.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/Rj2bdcH.jpg

That's who the trimurti are (same issue)

http://i.imgur.com/0WnZiqp.jpg

Considering also in JLA v3 #64, Vishnu was about to destroy creation as well as the fact that their power was a significant portion of the godwave itself (which is the power over all of creatoin, things like speed force which exists in all universeS are only part of it) id say that's pretty impressive.

2. She was the one who engineered the defeat of Shattered God and empowered (who was remaking creation), in wonder woman v2 #194:

http://i.imgur.com/KOB0xur.jpg

Greek myth does apply to her, she was at the beginning of creation, as shown in wonder woman v2 #139:

It's true that destroying the earth destroys Gaea in the process, that was even shown in the same series in which spectre battled Gaea, Spectre even healed her, but that doesn't mean she's just going to allow it.

Im also going by implied power, she has very limited showings, but the fact that all pantheons bow before her ....... it clearly shows that she is superior to all the pantheons. While DC skyfathers aren't exactly universal beings or on par with someone like Marvel's Odin, we have DC's odin create a notional dimension and put a raganrok in it, for instance, as shown in sandman v2 #26:

http://i.imgur.com/HuteUwp.jpg

yet all of the skyfathers/pantheons in DC are below Gaea........see where im getting at? some may disagree, which i can accept, that's just my opinion, of course.

She was a n00b, yes. However, she was still able to contend with the other earth elementals quite evenly. My point, however, is that elemental Firestorm was still able to harm Naiad significantly, and force her to stop her attacks in fear of what he could do to her/the earth. Firestorm was able to do this. By all accounts, Spectre *should be* more powerful than Firestorm by a nigh-infinite degree. Thus a singular earth elemental *should not* be able to give him any trouble at all.

If Naiad were truly capable of contending with Spectre in a PIS-free setting, it'd mean that Firestorm(fire elemental), Red Tornado(wind elemental), and Swamp Thing(earth elemental) could do the same... Which would be equally as laughable.

Darkseid and the New Gods are above the earthly pantheons of Gods as well, though. /shrug

I understand why you feel Gaea is extremely powerful-- that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. But personally, I don't read too far into implied power where versus forum debates are concerned. If I did, then Superman Prime(from DC 1M) would be one of the single most powerful characters that DC has ever produced. His on-panel showings(which take precedence 'round here) paint a different picture, however. sad

Meh, Spectre has fluctuated a lot over the years in power.

Ostrander's Spectre was consistently powerful, though. Unlike the last one.

Ostrander wrote BOTH comics those scans came from. That's one of the reasons I think it's so ridiculous.

Per Ostrander: Firestorm>Naiad~Spectre. Makes perfect sense.
