What would Wolverine even do with prep time? Sharpen his claws? Unless he has some secret stash of weapons that are separate from the stuff the X-Men use.

it doesn't have to be separate though. The tech that the x-men use should also be considered one of his recourses, the same way that I'd say S.H.I.E.L.D tech is a viable recourse for cap.
Actually, there was an issue where he lent yukio few wepons out of his personal weapons cache. Skrull tasers, shiar bombs and armors ,etc. IRRC

If the point is to see what Wolverine can do with prep then it's pointless because now we've been told nothing about what Wolverine is capable of, but what the X-Men are capable of with prep.
Just like Batman should get his own cave, but shouldn't get JLA resources. Even if he paid for most of it..those resources technically belong to the team, not Batman.
So if Wolverine can use X-Men tech it's basically a win for Forge or Beast.
