Unfortunately recent info leads me to believe that Kyle may not be so useless in a Force fight. As he's stated to have used "all of the Powers [he's] learned so far" (Citation: Jedi Outcast: Perfect Guide) to defeat Desann. Implying the battle was both a clash of Sabers(which varioud sources confirm) and a Battle of Force Powers. Seeing as Desann is capable of destroying things with a mere gesture before his powers quadrupled, then later he succeeds in break the Force Barriers of Luke Skywalker after being amped. It does stand to say that Kyle is at the very least comparable to Jaden or perhaps even above him now.
I also feel the need to clarify that Jaden isn't a very comparable duelist, I'd liken him more to Corran Horn than Kyle. They have both defeated a number of skilled Reborn(all personally trained by Desann) and Cultists. However Kyle's defeat of the Seven Dark Jedi, his victory over Tavion, his defeat of an opponent that provided Luke with a decent, albeit brief fight speaks of his lightsaber ability.
This isn't even taking into light the fact that Kyle was likely considered more knowledgable a Battlemaster than Kam Solusar, a man that has defeated Corran Horn and was slightly pressing Luke Skywalker. Not to mention He is regarded as a Legendary Battlemaster and is obviously held in high regard by Skywalker.
There's so much more i could say, but this should suffice.
