standard starting distance makes it tough for val. thor could easily whip up a wind that val couldn't do anything about. val's ONLY chance is to get close. if he did he could def take thor out, but no reason thor would allow him to get that close if he has a basic understanding of val's powers. /shrug

Mongoose had a better running speed that he used to hit & run Thor so he wasn't a good example but he was marginally superhuman so I thought it wasn't that bad.
Mongoose was a 10 tonner.
It is surprising how many times we can see 100 tonners being outclassed by characters far weaker physically in combat.
