that's wat they did in them days. when a girl turned 18 she wasn't too young for any1. Mr Gibbs, in the beginning was just a sailor who waa most likely respected as a good man by his fellow sailors and captain, and he turn pirate somewhere in the 8 years that isn't shown in the movie.
