On the astral plane a telepath can do almost anything he can imagine. Telekinesis and diamond form are absolutely useless, but can be improvised by telepathically manipulating and forming the astral energies into kinetic effects and astral armor.

Cassandra is useless without prep, Jean is phoenix, Emma beat xavier & rachel grey and excels at astral combat, Betsy has psycic katana. Nova can't possibly face them without (a lot) of prep. and if one of the team is on Cerebra at the time? Nova's butt is kicked out of existance.

Gladiator and the entire Shi'ar Guard were wearing psionic armour which protected them from TK and TP. The Cuckoos got past it to mess with Oracle though.

Anyway with the way Nova made short work of X and Jean you could add Xavier to the X-Telepaths and they'd still go down hard.
