One thing to note: the main thing about brawlers (and believe it or not the Hulk falls squarely into the 'brawler' category) is that they require direct contact to cause damage. In essence, they have to get their hands on the other person to do damage (obviously there are some addendums ...for example the Hulk could throw a car/rock/etc at the other person, but generally speaking there has to be direct tactile contact for damage to occur).

Now, that is a major problem when facing characters who can basically take you out from a very long way off!

For instance, take Thor. With the use of Mjolnir he could take out a character from a very far off distance (and I am not talking simply about throwing his war-hammer ....he could channel the magicks through it for a long-distance win).
OR someone line Superman ....he can defeat most characters in at least 6 different ways without ever having to come near them.

The Hulk sadly has to have tactile contact. That is a problem.

A good analogy would eb the battles between the Zulu nation of South Africa and the British.
The Zulus were armed with what is arguably the most lethal spear in history ....the Assegai. While most spears were meant for throwing, the Assegai was a short squat spear (invented by Shaka Zulu when he used the spear heads of three normal spears to make it) and it was used for close-quarter combat). With the Assegai the Zulu basically conquered almost all the tribes of South Africa, and chased some like the Ngoni all the way to Eastern Africa (it is like scaring a group of people so much that they flee all the way from New York to Minnessota!). Actually a quick read on some of the accomplishments of Shaka Zulu in military stratagem and maneuver can be an interesting read for those interested.

Anyways, the key point here is that the Zulu were terribly lethal if allowed to get close in. The problem was that the British had carbines and rifles, and thus they could be able to 'reach out' and slaughter the Zulu long before the Zulu got close enough to do any real damage. The result was that far fewer British soldiers could slay whole regiments of Zulu warriors, often without the Brits losing one of their own.

(There was a reversal though .....in some battles the Zulus used combat cunning to get close to the British, using valleys and long grass to hide their assault until too late. The result of that battle was an almost total slaughter of the British since in close range a rifle was totally useless against a skilled person with an Assegai).

The point of this story is this .....the Hulk is a brawler. He may be arguably the greatest of them all, but he is still a brawler.
Like other brawlers (eg Wolverine) he has to get close enough to touch the other person to do damage. If he gets close he can be exceedingly lethal (an angry Hulk is in the top 5 list of the last people you want having their hands around you), but he has to get in close.

Mephisto on the other hand doesn't have to.

Mephisto has loads of magical/infernal/eldritch powers.

Mephisto is amazingly intelligent.

Mephisto would realize what type of weapons the Hulk is carrying.

Mephisto would destroy the Hulk before the Hulk got within a quarter mile of him.

That is the truth.

Battle in Hell? Hulk doesn't stand a chance. Mephisto wouldn't even need to become corporeal in order to fight him. He could do literraly anything to him in his realm.

But, Hulk has incredible regeneration right? So u can't really "kill" him..
I think Mephisto should be able to defeat him in mephisto's own realm maybe........
Mephisto in his own realm stalemated a full-fed Galactus, afterall.
