When he gains the ability to manipulate energy, then absorbs the energy/life force of his teammates, survive because the powers of one of your teammates is survival, get the energy/abilities extracted, then stay at a much higher power level because of the experience.
Vulcan flies through space routinely...and he's powerful enough to fly through Shi'ar ships....and with their shields on full power. Winds aren't gonna keep him away. And he has forcefields that block....just about everything really, just hurling rusty objects isn't gonna cut it.
Remember guys that Magneto has kinda beaten the Phoenix and Proteus.

Proteus weakened himself by possessing multiple people.
Vulcan got a lot better after RAFOTSE. When he went up against the Guard he was given false information that would allow the guard to beat him.
If Vulcan can pull an energy foreign to him away from a very adept user like Magus then I don't see what Magneto can do to him. He'd need a serious amp like the power of a star to overpower Gabriel.
