regardless, hulk simply taking the shield like you said is more than likely as thing is probably still suffering from PTSD after his last tussle with hulk, he'd curl up into fetal position
Thing described WHY he always lost to Hulk back when he was Spiky Thing fighting Grey Hulk.
He said himself that he'd always tire out and the Hulk wouldn't. Pure and simple. Unless the Hulk starts aging and tuckering out........Ben won't ever match up with him until he gets old enough to evolve to the point that he is a better match. (which could take decades).
Hulk's probably never used one before, but he knew enough to throw it at Maestro.. I'm hoping less that Ben can use it to protect himself, and more that he can use it as a weapon to help even the odds.
