Whoa, whoa what does his palace in history have to do with your personal preference. If that’s why you like him just because other people do that’s pretty weak. Thanos just hit the scene anyways.
Thanos is far deeper, doesn’t deny the truth of what affects him and doesn’t (Vader had denial up until the end). We can see why Thanos does what he does and side with him. He is balancing out the universe. You can’t do anything more noble than that. In the same respect wiping out half the universe is the most horrifying feat a villain has ever accomplished in the history of cinema. Vader being against his son never made any sense. Vader lost himself and was just a puppet of Sidious.
Thanos beats him in every manner of character. Thanos has dethroned Star Wars.
Vader is the better movie villain so far. But Thanos is much more powerful for sure. Power =/= greatness though. That being said I do think Thanos is the best COMIC BOOK MOVIE villain of all time. As John Campea said, Heath Ledger's performance was better than Brolins, but Thanos is the better character.

Who cares about a storied or iconic status ? It’s basically saying he’s been popular for so long that’s why I like him without giving any actual reasons. Why do you like him more? I have yet to see any reasons other than Vader is cinematically far older.
Vader. We have had 6 movies even if you hate the prequels to see his story play out. From being the chosen one, to be tricked into joining the dark side, his rule to ultimately going against everything he believed and was taught to make sure his son didnt go down the same path or be killed. It is a redemption story.
With Thanos, maybe I am jaded by knowing about the IG story or how painfully obvious Dr Strange made it that this is part of the plan, i dont feel emotionally connected to what happened.
He is a top 3 Comic Book Villain to me which is still really good, just not an all time great.
Vader is lame and is notalgiq driven. There’s nothing that cool about him. He’s a victim who has been duped by Sidious in aiding in his agenda. Darth Vader has always been a pathetic character so emotionally weak it causes me to chuckle.
