White Walkers vs Legions of Mordor

The entire army of White Walkers, including Viserion and the Night King.

vs

Mordor's army (Return of the King) led by the Witch King of Angmar on his Fell Beast. The army consist of both the force that was attacking Gondor, as the army that was protecting the gates of Mordor led by the Mouth of Sauron

Open field.

Who wins?

White walkers still have necromancy powers? If so, IMHO, they simply walk into mordor and stomp

I'm not so sure it's as clear cut as all that. Wasn't the Witch King alone raising all kinds of undead in Agmar against Arnor? Shit like the Barrow Wights and such?

Episode 1, first scene. There was only one white walker there, as in the book. So I think they all have necromancer ability, even though d&d seemed to have retconned that later on....or maybe not.

*Edit*
I just think the ability to raise their fallen enemies as their own infantry puts them over, especially if they bait the front gate for skirmishes like they did in RotK. Just rinse and repeat, kill/reanimate, and I dont think the night king can lose

Indeed, if the Night King dies, every walker and White goes with him. Thats from the show though, and I'm not sure if it'll be the same rules with the books, assuming G.R.R.M gets around to it.

I just mean that I believe it's arguable that the white walkers are a platoon of necromancers, so the reanimation would not be limited to the night king himself. So you have a dozen or so necromancers casting spells on the field. Not only that, but they're far more skilled swordsmen and their undead are tougher to kill than orcs. Then again the undead turn into paper mache when going up against a Stark's plot armor so I can't say anything for certain

To be honest with you, barring direct intervention from Sauron, I actually am not sure if the Nazgul are enough of a game changer to matter. Daenerys estimated there was at least a thousand walkers in the army of the dead, each controlling about 100 wights. Now, the NK and the undead dragon are the biggest threats, and there's no real counter to them in the air. Fell Beasts arn't going to be much of a match for Viserion. But on the ground... The orcs are not the only ground forces. There's Mordor Uruks, Mordor trolls, Easterlings, Haradrim, and their Oliphaunts. The problem is, if the Mordor forces don't manage to kill or incapacitate the undead quickly enough to get the Nazgul in on the Walkers (As the Nazgul are the only magical creatures in the ROTK, so they MIGHT, and I stress this MIGHT have a chance of bringing down walkers due to magic and possibly Morgul Blades. But it it is more likely that as the dead of Mordor pile up and are resurrected, the sheer weight of numbers will tip from Mordor's favor to the undead army, especially if they start raising things like Oliphaunts and Fell Beasts.

this topic will.be murdered by D&D's bad writing. I just remembered night kings "infinity ice spear" let's call it. Did he only have one? Probably not. Also ice dragon has fire attack so fell beasts are kinda screwed. They'll be pretty effective against mordor, though, when the night king reanimates them. The only way mordor wins is with a certain 5 foot tall stark with a valyrian steel dagger and so much plot-power that she can do flying attacks like Palpatine.

I think he could generate new ice javelins, though not rapidly, takes a bit of time between losing one and creating the next.

Yeah, Viserion is very OP in this scenario. Nothing matches it in the sky.

Lol, would a 6'6 Numenorean decendant with a particularly powerful Magical Sword count? Oh wait... Wrong side. laughing laughing laughing

So basically Mordor would need powerhouse like Sauron, Saruman and Smaug to be added to the list, to stand a chance

If you want something closer to equity, yeah, but also you'd probably wanna add in the more supernatural dark forces. But to do that, you'd might as well just replace Mordor's forces with Morgoth's forces from the First age and before. Like the Angband and Utumno hosts, which were... **** off huge and deadly as hell.

Plus we would need to make a leap of faith about dragonglass/Valyrian steel having a counterpart in the LOTR universe.

I'd say magic is a decent counter to the animation that grants the walkers life. After all, it was magic that animated them in the first place. That said, it'd have to be one of the Maiar or more magically inclined minions of Morgoth or Sauron that could pull it off, if not Morgoth himself.

valyrian steel is forged with a specific spell, so it'd be like substituting kryptonite. eventually you gotta ask "what's the point".

good news: dragon glass is simply volcanic glass, of which i'm pretty sure mordor has several shit-tons

Mordor's forces didn't really use obsidian. So unless they have the information ahead of time and enough prep time to rearm themselves from iron and steel to glass, that's not happening.

The Night King showed enough battlefield prowess to sit back, or at least in the middle of his army. Where he could raise the Mordor dead to add to his army.

This is the Night King's battle to lose due to the necromancy powers. Best bet for Mordor is the Witch-king of Angmar flying around, ideally with the eight other ring wraiths, spotting the Night King and swooping down for the kill. They'd also have to do this before undead dragon blasts them out of the sky with ice-fire breath.

What utter cruelty. Mordor is probably littered with the weapons needed to defeat the white walkers and they don't even know it. I don't think they have much of a chance even with the obsidian.

May as well fix that detail in the OP or end the topic, right?

Also, was the NK able to reanimate the fallen corpses he had previously reanimated? Making them essentially forever troops unless they were utterly destroyed by something like fire or complete dismemberment?

I don't think he needs to keep re rezzing them. i think they just keep on going and going till they are completely destroyed. The Wight they brought back to King's Landing had all it's parts still going despite being dismembered to the limb. Even when that wight was separated from any walker by thousands of miles.
