It wasn't even the entirety of Book 1, and they screwed up everything about it.
Like the Earthbender prison camp. In the cartoon, they kept them in a metal offshore prison...why? Because no Earthbender besides Toph(Much much later in the series) could bend metal. In the movie, they kept them on a plot of land....Earth and dirt was everywhere.
In the series, Aang talked to Avatar Roku...not his dragon....the dragons don't talk. And how dumb is it to say that you beat the firebenders with water?
And the Firebenders....they can't make their own fire until Sozin's Comet? Bullshit. Shamaylan just didn't like the fact that Firebenders made their own element...it was unfair to the other benders. Where the hell is fire just...there to be used whenever you need it?
The movie was a dissapointment to any true fan of the series, plain and simple.
I haven't seen the anime so I don't have the HATRED that fanboys have for this film. This film was entertaining. But very Xenaish in places. Well it was shot in NZ.
Loved the Shaw Bros style intro sequence at the beginning. The movie should've kept that rawness. But it is a family film.
7/10. The Lord of the Rings style finale was a bit lacking. As was Slumdog Boy's performance. The old Fire dude was cool. And Twilight boy and his little sister were good.
