the only negative thing ive heard atleast when it comes to an oscar is that while his performance was good he played the same type of character he tends to a lot and it wasnt a stretch roll for him.. and then when compared to jamie foxx who had to portray a blind musician and johnny depp who can play any number of characters giamatti hasnt shown that type of acting ability with a number of different types of characters
The camera followed him for almost the entire movie and he had MUCH more screen time than Tom Cruise. He had the lead role. Much more so than as I mentioned the chick from Eternal Sunshine and she got nominated for LEAD role.

yea but in eternal sunshine there was not another dominant female... it would be easy for them to say the movie was about a hitman not a taxi driver therefore hes the star i agree with you that it doesnt always make since but thats just part of the perks of being at the top of the game.. when someone like tom cruise is in a movie it sorta becomes his movie
