yeah i am dead positive it is NO LATER than like 1725, it cant be, cause the corset style totally changed. lol.
the climax of the golden age of piracy happened like 1600-1710...
i checked the script, no mention of a steam ship...
but as you said, i dont think timeline is their priority. they specifically DONT mention a date, so that they dont have to hold hard and fast to that... and they sort of play around with things that could have been from several different decades around this time.
this movie is NOT realistic at all, and thats what i love about it. 
so it doesnt really bother me when it takes place... lol..

a movie doesnt have to be realistic to be good and thats why i love movies. u can b taken anywhere and in this case, you are talking about English people living in the Caribbean, but filming most of it in L.A. California. really funni i think!

and its pretty historically acurate that pirates often turned into UNDEAD pirates, Davy Jones cut his heart out, and its okay to die cause voodoo lady can bring you back...
