I just hope that the video directors is not destroying the franchise. Just like the game creators makes bad movie games is the same but reverse for movie directors.
Well watching some trailer seems really good movie. I had not played game yet but seems like I am desperate to watch such movies. I watch trailer of game even and show a game once my friend was playing. I hope that everything a king can do what is there in game like jumping from one pillar to another and so LOL.
Okay, so I saw the movie yesterday. I'll preface this with the fact that the Prince of Persia series is one of my favorite game series and that Sands of Time ranks in my top ten favorite games of all time. Also, I very rarely ever go see movies in the theater (last time I did was last summer when Half-Blood Prince came out, and I saw it in the theater because it was a date <3).
It's not a perfect movie, that's for certain. It, however, is definitely a good movie and worth seeing, in my opinion.
It manages to not fall into the pit that most video game movie adaptations do, in trying to faithfully follow a story and failing at everything. Well, that's because they don't try and follow the story exactly. The script was worked on by Jordan Mechner, who created the series, and while it loosely follows the plot of the Sands of Time game, it is its own plot, [SPOILER - highlight to read]: set up in the same style of Sands of Time, including the Grand Rewind, that pulls elements mostly from SoT but also from all of the PoP games (and even a bit that was straight from Assassin's Creed - [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Leap of Faith for the win ).
Well, as I said, it wasn't a perfect movie, and there were a few things about it that I thought could have been done better or differently. The plot felt a bit disjointed, and seemed to jump around a bit. It certainly didn't flow as smoothly as it could have. Dastan and Tamina definitely are good counterparts to SoT Prince and Farah, or 08 Prince and Elika, but there was less of the snarky banter between the two that I love so much from the games. Their relationship seemed a bit jerky and didn't seem to build up quite so nicely, but that could have simply been because the movie was (obviously) shorter than the games. However, on the flip side, as the movie takes place over the span of weeks (as opposed to a single day like the SoT game), there's also a bit more realness to the relationship.
The [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Sand Chamber - awesome scene. Nice way to try and incorporate some of the standard PoP puzzles into the movie. However, it felt rather out of place and just shoehorned in, because there was nothing else like that anywhere else in the movie. It was just like, bam, cross this, [SPOILER - highlight to read]: you've reached the Sandglass. I hesitate to say they should have omitted the sequence entirely, but I think they should have at least attempted to include a bit more along those lines. Also, there were none of the traditional traps that are so prevelant in the games.
Minor nitpick, but I was hoping for [SPOILER - highlight to read]: more of a traditional hourglass, like in SoT, for the Sandglass. At first I was just like "Hmmm, giant shiny crystal thing, okay...oh, it's the Sandglass. Nothing wrong with it, and it does fit the explanation about the Sands that Tamina gives, but still. [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Also, while I think the point where the Grand Rewind stopped was probably the best they could work with, plot-wise, as it gives Dastan a reason to be able to meet Tamina and return the dagger, I wonder if they could have been able to do it to before they attacked Alamut. Probably not, though, since they also still needed to 'reveal' the traitor and everything.
All of the references to the games, though...damn. I had a lot of fun picking them out, and I'm sure I've missed a bunch still, too. Dastan is a mix of SoT Prince and 08 Prince, being [SPOILER - highlight to read]: born a common person - a street orphan - who was then adopted by the king and became a prince, though with no royal blood. His attitude and personality is a mix of the two though he runs closer to SoT Prince, I think. His normal clothing/armor is very much based off of WW Prince; there's a scene traveling in the desert where he's clad more like 08 Prince. Tamina is pretty much a combination of Farah and [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Kaileena as far as her plot role goes, though some of Elika's personality is there as well.
Those who use the Dagger to rewind time are shown with [SPOILER - highlight to read]: the same sort of tattoos that the Dark Prince had while using it. One of the Hassansins uses two daggertail whips to fight. There's the [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Leap of Faith early on that I mentioned that was straight out of AC. The end, from when they [SPOILER - highlight to read]: reached the Sandglass, was straight from the end of SoT. There's a bit fairly early on where Dastan tries running up and flipping off of a wall and falls flat on is back, a nice nod to when you failed to do something acrobatic in the games. They even managed to work in a few 'boss' fights, which were nicely done, though no large creatures or [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Sand Monsters. In fact, there was - as of yet - no consequences to using the Dagger. However, as it's going to be a multi-movie series, the appearance of the tattoos on those using it could easily be some sort of foreshadowing and I hope they go with it.
And I must say - they did a great job of making all of the acrobatics and wall running and jumping and stuff look realistic. It's not as smooth and perfect as it is in the games - but that works to its advantage. A real person attempting that stuff isn't going to be as smooth as a video game character.
So this managed to get freaking huge, and I'm sure I've left things out. Overall, though, I thought it was rather a good movie. Personally I thought it was pretty great, and is by far the best video game adaptation yet. Who knows where they're going to go with it, but they certainly surpassed my expectations with this first one.
All the ways you wish you could be, that's me. I look like you wanna look, I **** like you wanna ****, I am smart, capable, and most importantly, I am free in all the ways that you are not.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. It has potential to be a bit of a laugh :P

it wasn't that bad, but it wasn't that good either. since he's got all the jump-off-building moves down, i wonder if tobey wouldve done a better job...
