Ah, an excellent thread.
I have lived on EU for about ten years now. So, you should know where I stand.
IMO, TPM was one of the worst movies ever made and I have very little respect for the prequels and prequel era material right now. As far as I'm concerned the prequels are the alternate universe, where as the EU is the real one.

Whoah!!! I wouldn't go that far. While TPM was not exactly the best movie I have ever seen it is still REAL Star Wars. Don't get me wrong, I love EU more than most Star War fans but I know that its not cannon, but it is entertaining. The movies is where it all counts.

Nah, that's where I disagree. Where the prequels and EU differ, I go with the EU, since it was written first and GL should of made it off-limits if he had a problem.

Well, the EU writers wrote their stuff knowing full well that it wasn't canon.

Why did Lucas bother making anything off-limits if he didn't think EU was canon? He should've just let them write about whatever they wanted. Obviously he felt the novels had some relevance.

Because all the EU novels were nearly all set after the trilogy, which he didn't care about. His off-limits zones were all in the past, in case people tried backstories.
He cleared prequel work on Han and Lando- and made the mistake of letting Fett through as well.
But the canon policy was clear from the very start.
