Did the inclusion of Politics ruin the EU?

The inclusion of political commentary in the Expanded Universe since the Phantom Menace has had mixed results. Some writers can work well with it and include it as a backstory for characters, while novels the NJO ones in particular are bogged down and overloaded with it. In your opinion since the Phantom menace what are some of the most notable examples of political overload in Star wars books? How much of the book was spent addressing political debates, planetary issues, or spent on Coruscant in some way involving government in SW?

Not sure how including Politics would ruin it, there has to be some form of government with all the planets and the like, thus having Politics.

*Points to the Thrawn Trilogy and Borsk Fey'lya*

Politics haven't actually played that big a role and I don't think they ruined much. Crappy politics occasionally make bad stories, but Palpatine's political manipulation was pretty good, and Borsk Fey'lya's 'obstruct the protagonists!' existence wasn't.

So, no it didn't ruin the EU, and overall it's situational.

Heck, politics really doesn't show up much in the EU... there's TPM, and a few of the weaker TCW eps, but not really the games, comics, and only sometimes in the novels.

The political scenes in TPM are actually by favourite parts, much more interesting than watching little Ani fly around in his pod racer...

Darth Plagueis is also my favourite Star Wars novel, and its knee deep in TPM politics. I also really liked TCW episode like Heroes on Both Sides. Altogether I think politics in Star Wars add weight to the action. It makes it more than just a fancy light show, and it gives the universe depth.

I have read the post-ROTJ though so I can't comment, I expect there is a point where it can start to detract however.

"The entire Senate is full of a bunch of idiots!- Oh wait! That's completely realistic after all! Never mind!"

Absolutly not.... To me it was one of the worst arc.... because they didn't getthe psychology of Anakin and padme.. Even the Micro series get it !!!!
As much as I hate the romance in the Attack of the Clone... I love some general idea behind that stuff... And even with that?? Have the scenarist eeven read a Jedi apprentice Special edition? I love the Idea of Anakin than the Jedi should be more active in politics....

And I've seen better stuff about politics plots in the star war universe..... Including all the stuff that happen at Naga sadow era !!!

For the senate being completes idiots, yhea mayby they get brainwashed by palpa in episode III. Mayby they instaure a law that say :
"In a conflict both faction have to saty neutral in the argumentation in order to avoid false evidences and all that kind of stuff".

Yhea, but LOOK AT OUR POLITICS !!!!!! THEY ARE ALSO COMPLETES IDIOTS !!!!
REMEMBER YOUGOSALVY GUYS !!!!!!!! THE YOUSALVY INCIDENT IS QUITE SIMILAR TO WHAT HAPPEN IN THE PHANTOM MENACE ANYWAY !!!!!!!

Oh wait! That's completely realistic after all! Never mind!"
Sorry XD
I Reacted too quickly.
