read between the lines PV...this is establishing that owen doesn't approve of luke becoming a jedi like his father, and has been keeping him sheltered from the idea....it's showing the whole new previously unknown world that is opening up to luke during the film....and every time obi wan mentions luke's father, he looks shifty and chooses his words carefully, and NEVER actually reveals any real information about who his father actually was (like a name? you don't think he'd mention a name if there wasn't some big secret plotpoint they were setting up?)....
but you're right cipher, the leia thing was tacked on at the last minute....
Yeah. Well have you ever heard him say light saber either?
What comes out of the man's mouth ain't always gospel.
It's his story now, and he's sticking to it. That's fine. But this fact alone is why none of the sequels will ever be as good as the original Star Wars to me and many others.
in the original draft of ANH, darth vader was NOT luke's father.
the dialogue in ANH seems to match this.
and obiwans shift expressions are an interpretation of his acting.
he could have just been disturbed thinking of his friend being betrayed and murdered.
Anakin becoming a ghost?
I can see it working....
But there are some snags as you've pointed out.
To me, it just involves Lucas explaining something that wasn't really being questioned....
well, i guess we're gonna have to agree to disagree on this one PV, but to me it's always been 100% obvious...i'd stake my life on it....and do you mean the original draft from 1973 when luke had 5 brothers, the deathstar was cloud city, luke was a general in the army etc. etc.....
as of shooting the film, vader was luke's father, and i wasn't even really shocked when that was revealed in esb, because it had been telegraphed so thoroughly....but before i let this lie, i would like to know who you think the big "secret father" figure they were all alluding to for a solid half hour of the film was going to be originally....
i just think it was feeding the plot of luke avenging his father.
"my name is indingo montoia...you killed my father....prepare to die"(princess bride)
another over-used soap opera plot.
lucas made ep4 assuming that there would be no sequels.
therefore, he had no reason to expand on his original plot.
once lucas hit paydirt, he knew he had to do an entire trilogy.
so..."I AM YOUR FATHER" and the brother-sister twist
fair enough....we're not going to get much further than this i feel....but i'm 100% certain of this and i don't say that lightly, maybe next time you watch it just think about it, but there's no point repeating this over again i think....said what i had to say on the matter, and was deadly serious....peace....
