correct, but he would be a fool not to.
its obviouse that from the opening crawl "episode IV" that it was
part of a larger story. lucas...either being wise or a pesimist...or both...
assumed it was a one shot deal.

anyway, we're just trying to debate the original motives of a man who will never admit to his original motives.

GL: i had the entire story in my head the whole time

yeah right george....whatever you say roll eyes (sarcastic)

No, you're right about that part. Just a little joking around...
Lucas put that stuff in there for a reason. Obi tells Luke that Vader killed his father so that Luke would be motivated to stop him...

Kinda....
But neither does Qui-Gon......
Supposedly Episode Three will explain the whole ghost thing.

And I find the idea of a body disappearing far stranger than one that doesn't....

"In the Empire Strikes Back, the old Emperor has been changed. Now it is Ian McDiarmid in his full Emperor makeup. However, there's a much more significant modification to this scene. The dialogue has now been changed so that it appears that Darth Vader never knew of the existence of Luke Skywalker. The Emperor now reveals to Darth for the first time that Luke is his son.The implication of this is that in Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Anakin doesn't know about the existence of Luke. In the past fans always assumed that Darth Vader knew Luke had been born or at least thought he had been hidden or was dead."
"Probably the most notable of any of the changes in this edition is the addition of Hayden Christensen at the end of RotJ.While it seems like more blasphemy, Lucas explains in the commentary that when you become a ghost in the Force, you retain the form of your true self. Anakin's last form of his true self was as a young man, not as a burned up old guy, hence the modification."

Website still says that Anakin did disappear.

Also, to be sure, the decision to make Vader Luke's father was made DURING the production of ESB. The borhter/sister thing was inserted almost last-moment into ROTJ as the original 'Luke's sister' plotline had been junked when he ended the story at Episode VI instead of going on to do three more.

Meanwhile, do we have any more directly on-topic points to be made here? THe topic is about the highlighted part of the original post; this is not meant to be a generic OT discussion.

Nope. It didn't say that on first release.

are you totally sure about that ush?
i remember watching it when i was like 6 (1980) on cable and it said "episode IV" i remember this because i was scratching my head, since there was no episode 1, 2, or 3. perhaps in the original theatrical release they didnt have it in the opening crawl?
that i would not know.

Only became Episode IV with the re-relase in theatres in '79. Original release was just Star Wars.
That's why to me it will always be Star Wars.

Indeedy. Shots of the original crawl exist- in fact, if you search the 'Ask the Jedi Council' archives on the Official Site, you'll find a question and answer on this.

They're even on the OT Bonus DVD in Empire of Dreams - finally available for all.
