I think you can't compare LOTR to SW beacause one is a book adaptation and one is a straight out movie. Also the OT would have been rubbish if it was made now for the first time! Modern technology is good but until you can't notice things are CG it's not not good enough! it should be used sparingly!!!

Personally though the others all have cool stuff in them ANH is my favourite. Could be cause I saw it 14 times in a row when I was 6 and my dad ran the local drive-in lol
However once the cycle is compelete, if all goes as well as we hope and the entire saga is seemlessly tied together I don't think personal favourites will matter. We will sit down, and start with TPM and work our way through every one and finish with ROTJ.
I hope so then i can get on with my life lol!!!(laughing on the outside, serious on the inside!)

Rubbish in what way? Storytelling and directing in ANH and ESB are still awesome to modern standards. SW isn't JUST special effects, dude.
And yes I can compare. I can compare because they're both MOVIES!!!! Umberto Eco said it like this when they made a movie out of Name of the Rose: a book is a book and a movie is a movie. That's why he didn't butt in when they made a script.
Also, LOTR and the PT are all movies with high expectations. LOTR met them, the PT has not... so far. (and of course, I hope ROTS finally delivers!)
I come from the land of LOTR, and i can say you definately can't compare LOTR and SW too much but both have some vague similarities. GL took alot of inspirations from many directions and made SW plain and simple. The OT still stand up very , very well against modern movies considering the age gap. BTW to be honest , I've enjoyed all SW Movies but do have my favourites and i fell as i may as well put my two cents worth in:
1. ROTS (If things go as planned or as they look atm)
2. ESB
3. AOTC
4. ROTJ
5. ANH
6. TPM ( Not saying i dont like it, i find basically all perfect with minor flaws)

Well, you have your hopes up for ROTS... I had that with AOTC, even (or especially) after reading the novel before the film came out. This time: seeing is believing.
And coming from New Zealand is hardly an argument why I can't compare LOTR with SW. There's plenty of reasons to compare them. More than there are not to do so.
Hey hey , i wasn't disagreeing with you, i was just commenting. Anyways, as i was saying before, GL subtly ripped off alot of old movies/books/religions to come up with the SW universe where everything feels unique to the person watching/reading whatever. Like i mean just look at the things in the "incredible cross-sections" book and you'll see things we don't have in our world but when we read it we understand what this and that does.
