i guess that techniacaly its about anikan when you look at the whole picture. lukes whole postion in the story was to save ANIKAN. that was the closing thing that happened in ROTJ. it was look defined character ploy to save anakin, so really, even though luke had more screen time, its about anakin

Dunno maybe it depends on when u saw the movies and the overall impression youve had for 20 or so years but the original trilogy for a lot of fans is about Luke and the prequels are about Anakin.
Lucas is the storyteller and its his thing but to s**t loads of fans the original trilogy is all about Luke and would still be today if he hadnt done the prequels....he can stick this and that in there and change the way you see the OT but in 77 when Lucas made that movie it was all about Luke and unless Lucas gives Vader more dialogue,sticks in the Emperor and puts in a few more prequel referances it always will be .

i dont know about that. the way the films were shot it seems as though luke IS the story, but i think that's the way he shot it in the first place because he knew at some point that he would make the prequels. and i believe this because that speach that ben gave to luke on tatoine hinting about the clone wars and darth vader. that was the key thing in that movie that caught the audiences interest in the history of star wars and set up the rest of the ot and pt. the reason that lucas wrote in the script that ben lied to luke about vader because he wanted to set up vader from the beginning as JUST an evil character, then his writing skills get really smart when he touches the heart of the villian and gives the audience a sense of sympathy for vader which usually isnt done with the villians. thats when the audience realized that vader is more than just a figure of evil but a more promenent character in the movies. lucas tells the audience that vader has a heart inside that twisted machine and we give sympathy for him because we suddenly see weakeness. thats when he introduced sidious as the real figure of evil and that vader is only a pawn in an evil game. the audience suddenly see's vader slightly as somebody who has the possibility of being saved. the bottom line is that vader plays the MOST significant role in the OT because of his many character changes throughout the OT. Lucas did something with his character that usually isnt done, giving sympathy to him, and the was basically the ENTIRE basis for creating the PQ to broaden that sympathy for vader. after watching the PT our eyes will mostly be set on vaders character rather than lukes, because of this new character information that we've gathered from the new movies. i would bet money on lucas knowing that luke would be seen as the main character in the OT but knew that vader would eventually be the focus of th OT, and i base this on the way the movies are filmed. while vader seemed to be a pawn of the darkside luke, after seeing the PT, it seems was a pawn of the lightsaide as well, but we didnt see that at first before the PT came out.

Luke is the central focus of the OT
if was all about Anakin/Vader wed see it mostly from his pov....wed have spent a lot more screen time with him..hed be the one wed be following.
Personally UNTIL MAY i think Vader only becomes a sympathetic character during and onwards from the scene in JEDI where he has the father and son chat with Luke on Endor..he gives the impression hes trapped.
Come May we all know we will see his fall from grace wasnt straightforward.
Lucas can say what he wants now hes got round to making the prequels and how we NOW see these movies as a whole but these films due to his constant jiggery pokery are seen different ways by many fans.
The only people who will benefit by all this will be kids many years from now who will only know of one edition,one version.
But to a child of the 70s the OT is and will always be about THE ADVENTURES OF LUKE SKYWALKER
with the Prequels about Anakin
and as a whole
THE SKYWALKER FAMILY

he cried a lot because
a)He saw his aunt and uncle turned to toast
b)He was almost drowned by some sucky one eyed tentacle
c)He saw his new freind and mentor cut down
d)He saw his best freind get blown to bits
e)He lost a limb and found out DV was his pop AND his mentors had lied to him
f)He saw his 2nd mentor died in front of him
g)He brought his father back from the darkside who then DIED
h)He faced death at least a dozen times over a 6 year period
i)He never got to go to Toshi station to pick up those power converters
Yeah hed be like all happy and whilstling his way thru life with all that lot goin on!
