I think it will, and I also think it will regain the #1 spot like it did last week after losing it for a day.

Well ROTS is no longer #1, it fell to #3 behind Madagascar, and The Longest Yard, but that is okay, because ROTS has now broken another record. ROTS has now become the fast movie to reach $300 million in 17 days. It may have a shot at $400 million. We need to keep seeing the movie. ROTS now ranks #19 on the all time list domestically. It passed, which is now ranked #23 ESB. ATOC and ROTJ are #17 and #18, and ROTS should surapass them tomorrow.

Box Office Update: June 6th, 2005 - Monday

Even in a disappointing weekend, REVENGE OF THE SITH breaks records. After a lousy third place on Friday at $7,076,177 behind THE LONGEST YARD and MADAGASCAR, SITH broke the record for fastest film to $300 million in 17 days, with the Saturday gross of $10,456,177 (still third place with MADAGASCAR leading over the Sandler picture).

Sunday saw a slight improvement in rankings as SITH moved to second place behind LONGEST YARD with a gross of $7,555,982. Ultimately, SITH made another $25,088,336, placing third in the box office race for the weekend. Surprisingly, CINDERELLA MAN grossed far less arriving at fourth place. No one expected THE LONGEST YARD and MADAGASCAR to have such strong second weekends.

Currently, REVENGE OF THE SITH clocks in with a $307,892,961 total gross, making it the 19th highest domestic grossing movie of all time easily blowing past THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK at 23 and resting just beneath RETURN OF THE JEDI's 18th place gross of $309,306,177.

SITH is also the 21st movie to ever reach the $300 million dollar mark.

However, look for SITH to slow dramatically this week, grossing around $2.5 million each day and struggle to break $3 million. SITH will most likely sit at $318 million dollars before the weekend begins.

SITH also sits at a comfortable 25th highest grossing movie worldwide with $616.9 million dollars.

The road to $400 million looks long and hard, as SITH's strong opening continues to translate into a faster than expected drop off. Dreams of busting the "TITANIC" record of $600 million are most certainly sinking by now.

Box Office Update: Tuesday, June 7th

As predicted, REVENGE OF THE SITH grossed $2,421,791 on Monday, placing second behind MADAGASCAR. The $310,314,752 SITH is now the 18th Highest Grossing movie of all time, right behind ATTACK OF THE CLONES at $310,676,740, and just ahead of JEDI's $309,306,177.

At $623.9 million worldwide, SITH slides up another spot to 24th highest worldwide gross, directly behind THE INCREDIBLES. SITH is not one of twenty-six movies to gross over $600 million worldwide.

Look for a similar gross on Tuesday.

Box Office Update: Wednesday, June 8th

Arriving second behind MADAGASCAR, REVENGE OF THE SITH grossed another $2,345,139 Tuesday, yielding a total gross of $312,659,891. Tuesday also marked the fall of ATTACK OF THE CLONES as SITH overcame its total gross to be the 17th highest grossing movie of all time.

The only remaining fanchise films for SITH to surpass are THE PHANTOM MENACE, at 5th place with $431,088,301, and the original STAR WARS, with $460,998,007 at 2nd place. Both are long roads to haul, if SITH can even break the $400 million mark.

BOX OFFICE UPDATE: Friday, June 9th

"This will be a day long remembered..."

On Wednesday, REVENGE OF THE SITH grossed a mere $2,311,696. However, this was enough to bump SITH up one more place on the all time domestic gross chart from 17th place to 16th...the movie that took the fall was none other than THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING, the first (and in my opinion, greatest) LORD OF THE RINGS film. SITH now sits at an outstanding $314,971,587 total domestic gross.

Weekend Four is just around the corner, and while MR. AND MRS. SMITH with the lucious ANGELINA JOLIE will most likely reign champion...we should all bump SITH up a notch with our attendance once more.

As long as it keeps making money and keeps moving up the all time list, I am happy. BUt we need to continue togo out and watch the movie. Lets at least push it over the $400 million mark.

Box Office Update: Monday, June 13

"It was business as usual for Madagascar, Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and The Longest Yard, holding the second, third and fourth spots for the weekend. With about $332 million in 25 days, Revenge of the Sith stands as the 13th highest-grossing picture of all time and is on track to out-pull The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King's $377 million to eventually rank seventh. Adjusting for ticket price inflation, however, puts Sith at No. 83 with an outside chance of cracking the all time top 50 by the end of its run." - http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=1836&p=.htm

any chance the numbers go up when schools are out and more kids go to the movies? I've put my five times in and probably one or two more viewings before the DVD comes out. Probably the last time to see a Star Wars movie on the big screen (I don't have much interest in the novelty of all of the films in 3D, unless it's done like a holograph...now that would be tight!)

BOX OFFICE UPDATE: Ending Week Four

Impossible to believe it has been four weeks since REVENGE OF THE SITH was released in theatres? Believe it. They hype has died, and internet fandom is peeling off.

Regardless, SITH has now grossed a total of $336,736,523 domestically placing 13th highest grossing of all time, and adjusting for inflation, 82nd...two below ATTACK OF THE CLONES. Worldwide, SITH sits at 19th place with $680.8 needing another $50 million to overtake the next slot held by THE MATRIX RELOADED.

Currently, SITH sits at 4th place in the box office receipts collecting an average of $1.5 million per day. I would expect these weekly totals to start leveling off around one million and hold steady for a few weeks. The continued rapid burnout of SITH should certainly continue this weekend with the release of BATMAN BEGINS, which is falling slightly below expectations. Expect SITH to struggle to break $10 million this weekend.

As far as records go...the likelihood of achieving the record for fastest to $400 million is very slim, unless SITH rebounds soon. This is because it is likely SITH will NOT break the $400 million barrier, placing 7th on the all time lists, clearly beating out RETURN OF THE KING....but even that may be a struggle.
