The more I think about it the more I am convinced that there is no way Palpatine could have become Emperor without Padmae.
She was the one who put forward the motion that there should be a vote of no confidence in Chancellor Valorum, then made the disasterous decision of leaving JAR JAR BINKS to replace her when she went into hiding with Anakin.

Re: Padmae & Palpatine
He would've done it anyway, and he would've found others to support him. No reason blaming Padme for that little bit. Yeah, she's guilty, but it could've been ANYONE else. That way at least, Lucas puts the spotlight on her a bit more.
ps: and unless you spell phonetically, it's Padme, not padmae (you're not in ancient Rome )
Palpy convinces the trade federation to invade Naboo.
Eventually Palpy is elected Chancellor due to the invasion.
Once elected, under the cloak of sidious led the separtists into war.
War ends, sidious defeats the Jedi, has new apprentice.
IT"S ALL PALPY"S DOING, right from the beginning, including the conversion of Anakin

Besides, do you think a cunning Sith Lord would stumble over someone like Padme? If it hadn`t been for her, he would have simply used his influence (as in Force influence) over the Senate/have Chancellor Valorum taken care of/etc
Anakin would have become a Sith without her. Love isn`t the only path to the Dark Side - there is also arrogance, hatred, anger... The kid had plenty of those... It was in his nature!
