In the BONGO sequence? I think that is taking that idea too far, Yerssot...

I do like R2 and 3PO, but I think they are homosexuals. 3PO is very feminine.

You forget queeq, for the 18-23 year old age group everything HAS to revolve around some kind of sexual innuendo.....

Falling behind again...
Anyway - Ush:
"I don;t think we were meant to think that QGJ called the fish. He was making a general point at once encompassing the food chain and real life. "
In that case, what does OBI mean when he says "I think you over did it?"
Usually I'm quite happy to have people dismiss my postings, but this one I intend to see through. I'm absolutely convinced QGJ called the fish.
My apologies in advance if this is out of order, but here are a few lines I ripped from the Episode I script:
_____
The large COLO CLAW FISH is surprised and rears back. The sub turns around and speeds away.
JAR JAR : (cont'd) Wesa in trouble now??
QUI-GON : Relax.
QUI-GON puts his hand on JAR JAR's shoulder. JAR JAR relaxes.
OBI-WAN : You overdid it.
The COLO CLAW FISH leaps after the fleeing sub as it shoots out of the tunnel and into the waiting jaws of the SANDO AQUA MONSTER.
____
If OBI isn't refering to summoning the fish at this point, what is he talking about?
I read he script before seeing the film so I already had my own take on this by the time it was released, and admittedly the line is lost in the commotion, but I maintain that it certainly SEEMS as if QJG called the fish to help them.
"Always a bigger fish" is an important line, it says so much about QGJ and his tendency to bend rules / situations to suit himself.
Let's face it, he played with his powers and then joked about it.
Great character though, don't get me wrong.

The you over did it-line was because:
"Just relax" QGJ
he grabs Jar Jar by the shoulder, who faints at that exact moment.
"You overdid it" OB1
So I would say that the you overdid it line, was because QGJ 'relaxed' Jar Jar too much

Fair enough.
Although "who faints at that exact moment" isn't in my script, and sounds out of kilter to be honest - bad writing, even for Lucas. What publication are you refering to?

I'm talking about the movie.
What I see is that when QGJ is grabbing Jar Jar by the shoulder he faints.

Yes, DY, Obi-Wan was clearly talking about Qui-Gon having over-relaxed Jar-Jar.
A no point are we meant to hink that he called the fish.

I think the line 'You overdid it' was not in the script and made up by McGreggor, look at Neesons face when he says that... he looks at Ewan with a face of: What are you saying? do I have to say something back??

Maybe Jar Jar was doing coke when the camera wasn't on him. That's why he was so high strung. Then he passed out, and Ben told him he took too many drugs.
"You overdid it."

In that case I can understand why so many people had a problem with the Bongo sequence. I always assumed the journey was perilous because QGJ had made it that way, painting him as a slightly sloppy, devil-may-care jedi and a subtle mirror to Jar Jar. I liked the fact that while Jar Jar was confessing to being clumsy, QGJ was actually demonstrating an impulsive, act-now-think-later quality himself. It at least gave a basis for their union and, I thought, said a great deal about QGJ himself.
I liked the idea that Anakin was discovered and introduced to the jedi (and an opportunity to live-out his destiny as Darth Vader) by an impulsive, cheating, maverick knight.
But if it was just a sequence comprised of effects with no further contribution to make its less thrilling and important, certainly.
I'm disappointed and, I'm sorry to say, beginning to think far less of TPM, Star Wars in general and *gulp* Lucas himself... which is sad because I've been an ardent fan since 1977.
Huff!

I know the feeling, DY, but at this time I do consider the OT as somewhat seperate from the PT. I certainly hope Ep2 will change that.

Just do what I do! I never really liked TPM that much, so I would watch it when I was all drunk. It's better, and you pay more attention to the movie.
One time my friend and I snuck a case of beer into a theator on a screening of TPM. I had to get up and pee four times during the movie
