yes , episode 1 and 2 are pathetic , ( especialy ep1 ) but one of the reason they are so bad besides the kids crap ( jar-jar binks even more annoying than yoda ) and that loooooooooooooooooong love story thing was that lucas is still filming his movies the way he did it in the 70's ( besides the special effects of course ) , the only improvement on the previous movies was on the lightsaber fight scenes being much more energetic . lucas chould have done what he had done for empire strikes back and return , leave the direction of the movies to another director or maybe evolve in his filming style . and definitely get rid of jar-jar .

Well, without Jar jar, Episode I would suck even more.

Jar brings a bit of fun and movement in Episode I. He looks dumb in EpisodeII though.

yeah i was extremely dissapointed with ep1+2.
there were a few good bits - darth maul, yoda fight...
but george lucas needs to be told he cant write scripts or be a director.
the cgi is poor - looks like a cartoon (compare with LOTR+matrix).
whole characters and scenes are so bad its painful - in ep2 when c3po ends up on the production line - r2d2 suddenly has booster rockets in his legs.
im scared that the last one is gonna completly destroy the legacy of ep4-6.
I'm sorry, but Watto and Dex look like cartoons? there are NO computer characters that top them. I'd put Gollum on the same level, but that's ONE good cgi character. The cave troll changed scale a couple times and its texturing was way to smooth and lacked detail. The SW prequels have SEVERAL CGI characters that have much more realistic behavior and movement than the LOTR movies (except Gollum, he was good, but that was an actors movements being recoreded, ILM does it by hand).
Man, you must be really scraping the bottom of the barrel with that line.
Excuse me, we know ILM is a pioneer and all, but it doesn't automatically mean that they are the best in making movie sfx.
It's like saying Ford Motors is the only car company that makes awesome cars. Get real.
In this industry, your only as good as the last work you did. And sad to say, ILM's recent efforts leaves much to be desired.
How many other computer caracters are there? The nemo and toy story caracters dont count since the movies they are in are completely computer made. Gollum is ok made but as you said it was an actor's movement being recorded. LOTR use darker effects so it hides the com graphics but sw use bright colourful effects so the com graphics are too revealing and therefore look fake.
What about Jango Fett and clone trooper CGI, and all those crap computer graphics in the prequels. In the Palpatine's office, look at the entry door and the two sofa's next to it, they're computer made. Every god damn scene in AOTC has computer graphics.
I'm against that whole idea of computer graphics and computer made caracters because there are far too much. Coruscant and Naboo, Geonosis and kaminoa were brilliant. But all those caracters, vessels and scenerys from the movie which are present throughout the prequels are all computer made and it makes it look fake.
Look at the OT, how good the yavin, hoth, endor and all other battle sequences and caracters are. They done them with models and real people and it looked far better than the PT battles. I admit the Obi-Jango space skirmish was very good but the Naboo space battle and ground battle was real crap.
What's the point in having clone CGI's, stormtroopers were real suits with real people inside them. The clones arent doing anything special, so they could of used real people and suits. The ralliement is compeletely CGI, whilst in the OT, the imperial raliement at the emperor's arrival was done with real people and a huge realistic painting.

Dirty Vader you are correct, the use of CGI just because its there and they can afford it is a poor decision - the combination of real people/objects/backgrounds with Cgi and models would have been a lot better
